DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."
The team with cap space not requiring a trade is always in the best position to get the player. It's just that Hayward's actions indicate he's not as interested in the team with cap space as they might want to believe.

Imagine the tables were turned. The Mavs have lots of cap space and articles are being written about Hayward considering Dallas, but at the last minute he decides to delay opting out with no explanation. As many times as we've been used as negotiating pawns in free agency, I can guarantee nobody here would feel very confident in that situation.
