DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

I would probably do DFS/Wright/18 for 10 in any event in which Toppin and Okoro had already been selected. Which is to say, one or more of Avdija, Okongwu, Vassell, Haliburton, or Hayes was available.

DFS can start and is under control for two more years at roughly half of the MLE. I think he has that kind of value on the trade market.

Oubre is pretty expensive for a player with his production. Not really a guy that screams MBT to me. Rubio is someone they have reportedly liked for a few years. But meh. He’s not worth #18 and DFS if you ask me.

I tend to believe that it’s about the pick.

Lol, if Dodo can turn into an equivalent, younger wing (or a vet PG who's a great defender) AND a move up into the LOTTERY, I think you do it, and I'm his biggest fan! but I can't remotely believe that's true. Will believe it when I see it.

Oh, sure! 10 would be great!

I just don't see how you get from 18 to 10 using only DFS! Maybe there's more to the deal than what's in that paragraph, but it seems to me like both picks would end up at OKC, along with Shamet, with the established players going elsewhere.

That role, that contract. Hell, yeah, it's worth moving up 8 spots.

This is crazy. False, I hope.

I think it is Rubio & Oubre for CP3 as the main frame and other teams are involved to make it better especially for OKC, who have no use of Rubio + probably no interest in paying Oubre in a year.
Clippers want Rubio as they need a PG, Mavs want Oubre as they need wing help.

I would understand giving 18+31 if we are doing Wright + JJ for Oubre. OKC gets picks, JJ is neutral expiring who is young enough and cheap enough to try using him, Wright is a player they can use and trade next year as expiring. They gets picks to make it worth it for them.

But what is the point of giving DFS and picks for Oubre? DFS is better defender IMo and became a better 3PT shooter and he fits our system perfectly, also seems to be one of the closest players to Luka.
Nah man, if we aren't getting 10th pick at least, it is bad trade for us. Wright for Oubre isn't worth DFS + 18

GUYS, all of the players you want at 10 are the guys OKC would want out of this deal, and THEY are the ones giving up Chris Paul. Would love to be wrong, but I highly doubt the Mavs are trying to get #10 out of this.

I assume we aren't hearing anything final on this until whenever the trade moratorium ends (Monday?).

Man, it might be contingent on whether certain players are available at #10, #18, etc...might be.

Who knows how long this will last?

I think you're dreaming. Would be into it though.

If we're giving up 18 and DFS, I would hope there's a Schroder and an SnT Gallo involved if we aren't getting 10.

The more I think of giving up DFS (which I have not proposed in any event - I don't even think I mentioned him in my proposed Atlanta trade) and not getting back a lottery pick, the more that I'm out.

For the record, I could talk myself into either Oubre, Rubio, or both. Rubio, in particular, can do much of what we're hoping Jrue Holiday can do here.

But, DFS? I LOOOOVVVVVVE that guy.

CP3 is still one of the toughest contracts to deal, at the age of 35. They won't expect kings ransom for it.

And more important, what is it for the Mavs? If we don't like what we are getting they can easily do it without us and enjoy Oubre and whatever Suns are giving them. To give a pick, DFS you need to have something better than Oubre, or we are idiots, IMHO
And Rubio is a big no, love the guy but he is bad fit next to Luka atm, may be in couple of years for MLE I will give it a shot.

Are we sure Oubre to Dallas is the point of this deal?  I think Dallas really wanted Shamet in the Brunson draft.  Is it more reasonable to do DFS/18 for Shamet/10 than something where we get Oubre and #10?  Plus, getting Oubre requires players who weren’t mentioned in the deal.

I’m also not totally sold on Rubio to LAC.  It will be hard for them to salary match Rubio as a tax paying team.

DFS/18 is not equivalent value to Shamet/10. No way.

I'm legit starting to think Dallas might be in this for Rubio, for whatever reason.

Rubio cannot guard the best opposing wing or guard all game long. He is a good defender but he is small and not the best athlet. More of a smart vet/ team defender. He is a good playmaker. Clearly a better passer than Holiday but he is a terrible finisher in the paint and even worse shooter than Jrue.
I really like Rubio but next to Doncic it just doesn´t make sense. I guess he could run the 2nd unit but that´s not worth the asking price.

As @"DanSchwartzman" mentioned. Rubio to the Clippers makes a lot of sense. They desperately need a floor general to run the offense. Rubio is one of the best in the league and they have enough scoring to compensate for his lack of shooting/inside scoring.

Oubre makes sense but with DFS going out the Mavs would need to be compensated.

There is never enough shooting in the modern NBA so Shamet is a player that every single team would like to have. He is probably one of the few remaining assets that the Clippers might be willing to give up.

I think Rubio goes to Clippers in this scenario. Rumor is Kawhi wants them to add a true point guard. DFS + 31 for Oubre is more reasonable imo. Not sure what we could offer with 18 to get us to 10.

Rockets "Insider" according to ChokeFans

The Rockets core is not happy. That's not a surprise to be hearing.

However, I'm not so sure this is the first big domino to "fall." There's going to be some major dissension throughout going forward. Your franchise player(s) are not happy at all...

I'll leave it at that for now. Wish all of you well.

Not sure i want Oubre who is a 1 yr rental. The likelihood he balls out with Luka/Rick and gets a big ass contract scares me. Rather have DFS on his bargain contract tbh.

If they are interested in #10, i hope they only do a potential deal if they get their man. Other trading up in this draft doesn't make much sense either.

Let's take 10 out of the conversation for a moment.  For Rubio to end up in LAC, they have to send out a significant contract.  Maybe we are giving up 18 to do Wright for Beverley and swapping DFS for Shamet.  10 logically goes to OKC.

So:

Paul to Suns
D. Wright/Oubre/DFS to OKC
Rubio to LAC
Beverley/Shamet to Dallas

Not sure who deserves 18 in this deal...probably OKC gets it or we are giving up 18 to get 25 (or the Phoenix/OKC part is a 10 for 18 swap).  Two other thing of note here, this is cap neutral (very close) as it relates to 2021 room.  Second, OKC has TPE's to absorb Wright and DFS.  I wonder if there is a construct that gets some or all of the TPE to Dallas.

Beverly = Duffy
Shamet = Happy Walters (Excel)
