Things haven't changed. They knew this season was going to be a huge loss going into Orlando. And the hope still remains that they'll have fans at games next year. The season being started in January gives that a chance (although it might not be right away).
I'm curious how they negotiate the uncertainty this offseason...But I think they get it done. I 100% think they smooth the cap for the next 4-5 years and leave it fairly flat. But that keeps players from getting hammered the next 2-3 and a repeat of the Warriors down the line. Teams are still upset about the one year cap jump allowing them to create a superteam.
Even if you are right and the cap shrinks big, I think the last thing the Mavs should do is go and blow all their money and get trapped in a mediocre roster for the next few years. That's the exact thing that most of these teams that had their star walk did.
