DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

Delon has value in this league to the right team. I do NOT believe the Mavs will have to attach an asset to move on from him.

I hope you are correct. The Mavs would give him away for free.

Lowe: First part is about the Mavs future and that elusive 3rd "back end all-star."

Interesting point Delon Wright, and possibly Dwight Powell mentioned as "value contracts":

Including Powell there - cocaine is a helluva drug.

I think first thing you have to take into account is, that Houston wants to remain competitive. So they will do a trade, if it makes them better. They don't care about picks, young talent and so on. They are in a win now window. Sure they would want to get rid of Gordon horrible contract for a similar value player like THJ, but Mavs are not doing that unless Tucker and Roco are attached to it and Powell going the other way. Which of course Houston won't do. So a third team would need to be involved. Mavs providing assets for Houston to get rid of Gordon contract.

Perhaps somthing like this:

Det: Gordon, #18, #31
Hou: Wright, Luke K.
DAL: Roco

As always THJ, but very interesting - does it work this way financially?

It was light for Houston before, no way they do it this way

The usual. Some guy on TV/radio with no inside information says something. Fishs makes a story out of it. Ends it with the usual the chance isn´t zero. We don´t know what Giannis thinks.

The more interesting question. Giannis signs his supermax deal this offseason. Who else could the Mavs target with max capspace?

Yeah, the "isn't zero" gives me lots of confidence.

I was pointing that out before, there is not likely it will be any other max worthy player available. LeBron, Kawhi, George are PO and in any case very unlikely (LeBron will be in old anyway). Gobert is not a good fit. This leaves the likes of Oladipo and Jrue (PO). Not really many options. I think it would be wiser to ignore 2021 cap space scenarios

I got excited, and then I saw it was Fish...

Kawhi Leonard would be available...
14x All-Star, 12x all-NBA, 1x MVP, 1x Finals MVP, 1 NBA Championship: Dirk Nowitzki, the man, the myth, the legend.

I'm not sure why they would do this the other way around - Wright is cheaper and may fit better.

He has PO. Not to mention he specifically left title winners Toronto for LA. Unless he sets himself a goal to win the title with all teams, I see no chance him leaving LA for Dallas

THJ is way better for Houston system. They need shooters before anything else and Wright is not it. Besides, Wrights 2 years are basically same money as THJ 1 year. THJ contract can be used for further trade.

I never said it was likely, just that he was available. Plus he will certainly turn down that player option so he can get the full max as a 10 year vet.

Clips mortgaged their entire future for PG. The Clips could look totally different in a year. If they fail twice, Kawhi has shown that he'd leave at a moments notice for greener pastures.

And Luka has the greenest pastures in the NBA.

I hope he signs the supermax this offseason so we can put that pipedream to bed. He absolutely should as its a ton of money and the Bucks are a perennial contender. As much as I'd like him on the Mavs the odds are basically zero or close to it. When a top superstar leaves, it's not for Dallas. Miami would be probably the leader in the Giannis sweepstakes but Donnie and Cubes would talk Fish into thinking he's 80% committed to Dallas. It would just be a waste of everyone's time.

Classic Fish article we have fallen for now for a decade straight. I know we have Luka and KP now so it's "different" in a sense but I am not buying it. I will believe it when I see it.

I agree about Luka and I also agree that Kawhi would leave at a moments notice.

But Kawhi is from San Diego and wants to play for a team in southern Cal.  IMO he would only leave the Clippers for the Lakers.

Basic logic:
Rose+Kennard = equal value to Richardson. Why would Philly need to add picks? Richardson is the best player in this trade
Wright+#18 = equal value to Richardson. Since Philly doesn't need Wright, Detroit picks a back up PG and a mid first round pick. I doubt Detroit can get more for the two players, without taking some worse salary back. This way they keep all their cap space to sell for additional assets

Perhaps #31 should be added, but I doubt any more.

Why would they do that? I see no point in that... His contract can be used in a trade and they have TDL or next summer to do it, even if they can't work something this FA.

I hate to be the wet blanket, but Dallas ALMOST ASSUREDLY cannot physically trade until after the draft.
Obviously Dallas cannot trade their pick without acquiring another 1st rd pick prior to the trade -
They also are hard capped for the 19-20 season (Wright S&T + Porzingas signing triggers) so they are going to have a very difficult time adding salary until the 20-21 season starts.
I really love the thought of acquiring 1-2 of Philly's picks for taking on a bad contract for expiring/near expiring money and unless there is a deal to be had during the draft (we love a player/someone else loves a player in our slot) that won't become official until after July 1st (well the 2020 equivalent of it anyway) we have to wait until the clock strikes 20-21.

They can make their pick for the team they're trading with then make the trade after the pick happened. That's been going on for years in the draft.

KP for Gobert. Mavs pair greatest offensive force with the NBA’s most impactful defender I can ever remember. It would work like a charm.

AD if Lakers fails to make it to the finals.
Perfect fit here, 22 years old Luka vs 37 years old Lebron in AD quest to win a ring.
