DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."
I have been anti-Dinwiddie b/c no shooting and no D, but he does have some significant offensive skills....

If the deal is Wright/18, then I'm in. He's on a decent contract for two years.

The biggest issue I would have with him is not the lack of defense (ahem, we've been talking extensively about Lavine, Hield, and Gallo, all of whom are turrible on that end), but that I think he's clearly a bench player. He's ball dominant. He can't be on the court with Luka. Might as well get an asset back for Brunson if you're going to trade for Dinwiddie.

How bow 18/Wright for Dinwiddie, Jackson + 31 for Tucker and THJ + future seconds for Green? OKC might do that as they would get some 2nds + be able to flip THJ again later on for some kind of draft compensation.

I just looked at the list of 2021 UFA again. There really is only one that doesn't have an option that would be a big "get". Rudy Gobert.

I know a lot of people don't love his fit next to KP, even though I like it. But can we think long term here? We know that as things stand currently the only time we are going to be able to afford a big named FA is next years offseason. If Gobert is the only player you can get before Luka's extension money kicks in do you keep your powder dry for Gobert? Do you try to swing for the fences now, or at the trade deadline to get Gobert? I don't really think we have the trade capital to trade for him unless there is some sort of massive falling out in UT. But we have heard rumors that UT doesn't want to pay him his Max next offseason so could he be available?

I personally think that Luka, KP and Gobert on the same team would be delightful. Would end up playing a lot of zone defense with KP and Gobert on the back line offering rim protection.

I mostly know Dinwiddie from his playmaking/gettiing buckets ability. How is his on ball defense?

Expiring ($12mm PO in 21).  Great playmaker and great at finishing.  Brooklyn O dies when he sits.  Terrible D.  Proved he can share the court with a ball dominant player (Russell).  If he could hit 38% of his 3’s he’d be a $20mm player even with defensive deficiencies (but he can’t).

Same agent as Danny Green, WCS and Burke.  It is an upgrade over Wright in addition to moving Wright’s money...which is why it probably costs some draft compensation.  He is your PG and makes THJ’s lack of playmaking at the SG more tolerable. Luka is Point Forward, but he and Dinwiddie wouldn’t share the floor all that much.  Dinwiddie stays on when Luka sits and Luka comes back to play with the second unit.

I always see statements that you cant pair Luka with another ball dominant player.    Isn't that exactly what LeBron has excelled at when paired with Playoff Rondo or Kyrie?    Seems like the paradigm people use is the Rockets form of Harden hero-ball where everyone clears out while Harden dribbles for 22 seconds, but part of the problem the Rockets have in the playoffs is that one dimensional vanilla style of offense gets very predictable in a long series (which is also the problem the Mavs ran into in end of game situations). That seems to be what the Mavs are specficially trying to avoid by seeking another playmaker.

I like the rest, of course cause they're extremely Dallas heavy. This though is a no go. I'd rather trade THJ for something more myself.

good bye to 18 and 31. Thats basically our offseason and a MLE signing. Still not a fan, i think they should rather try their luck in the draft.

If they give up anything else other than Wright/Jax. Namely Curry or DFS or Kleber, its even more "stupid".

Yeah, I'm not giving more assets than 18 for him. If 31 is part of the package, I'm probably out. Also trusted the earlier post that he expired in '22. At his salary, he'll surely opt out in '21. I don't know why the Mavs keep insisting on expirers when, no more Giannis. Of course, this is a rumor from a questionable source, and likely has no basis in reality.

I'm not giving #18 for Dinwiddie...no way.

Ok, I figured out why Cuban likes this guy. Some Cuban go-to phrases come out of his mouth, word for word.

Holy crap. Not even if it gets rid of Wright? Wow. We're talking about a bonafide rotational player here. Hayes in a trade-up is the only way you're almost guaranteed to do better.

The deal for Diwiddie for sure would be 18/Wright and maybe that's it altho I am sure the Nets would try to get 31. I think 18/Wright would be a fair deal.

Mavs could just keep THJ for the time being and see how things go but there is some redundancy there. I think 31 could be used to draft a guy you like or flipped for Tucker. If DG is bought out he could be had for MLE. Mavs would use MLE for DG or another defensive minded player or two.

I don't see THJ and Dinwiddie as overlapping players. Dinwiddie is more like a 6'6" JJB.

A player that doesn't have an outside shot and sucks at D is not a "bonafide rotational player" to me. Sorry.

Kamm is going to be really unhappy this week.

Plus, if his shooting is as bad as some are saying, I'd say keeping THJ around would be pretty crucial.
