That’s more like what I thought the Mavs were getting in Zinger. If this can become a typical Zinger game in terms of efficiency, that big contract will look pretty good. Zinger’s comments suggesting he’s basically altering his game to take the mid range out by focusing on 3s and paint are incredibly interesting. I wasn’t aware that his previous style had a mid range focus. It seems likely his struggles have more to do with that than lingering effects from the injury or rust. Transformations are hard but can pay off big if successful. This also gives some clarity on what the Mavs overall are trying to accomplish, a style with the same shot pattern as the Rockets but that gets there with relentless ball movement over one on one play. I like what they’re doing. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s enough of an evolution to count as a significant innovation. The coaching has been extraordinary so far this year.
