It wouldn’t be the TDL without a “Houston is going to get a stud by trading Capella” story.

When I hear that Minnesota is looking for 2 firsts for RoCo and Houston is looking to deal Capela for a wing, my first thought is Boston.  I'm sure they'd love Capela, and they have 3 first rounders to work with.  Find the right outgoing salary from Boston and I could see a deal there.

Smart to Minnesota
Capella to Boston
Covington/Bell to Houston

Everyone stays under the LT.

Houston is wanting a ransom for Capella. Several picks AND a starter. Cap has a great contact while puting up 14 14 and two blocks. They are not giving him away for a salary cap dump. Most will be shocked at what Houston gets if a trade is made

Morey of late reminds me of the fantasy owner that over manages his team. While most other owners have 3-5 moves, he has 20+ and is no better for it.

they are much more desperate to win now.  Their superstars aren't young like ours Wink

We don't have superstars. We have a superstar, a borderline star and a bunch of role players.

KP is easily a star, he’s not borderline. He’s made an all star team and is still recovering from injury / rust. Plus he just put up 35 points in his last game when given more offensive responsibility.

If Capela is that good, on a manageable contract, and young...why exactly is Morey looking to get rid of him?

He wants stars...not role players...Capela is their main ticket to get that star...

Re Woj that's news on RoCo. Re Stein it makes no sense that Rox and Philly would be front of the line. Rox can only get him for Capela in a 3 way. Philly has no contracts they make sense to swap.

Clutch. I understand. However, the Rox are marketing him as a stud (not as a role player) and want a heist for him. My question to Morey if I am the other team would be if he is such a stud on a cheap deal, why are you getting rid of him?

This trade deadline seems the dumbest in years. Minnesota wants 2 1st for RoCo?

What could be deducted from different tweets is also, that Minny cares just about picks (or prospects) and not about vets or cap space. Not putting Dallas in a strong position.

Regarding the Minny - GSW trade for Russell. It doesn't make any sense for GSW to take that Dieng contract. So it will have to be something much more creative.

It’s widely known that Minnesota is still in hot pursuit of Russell, who they view as an ideal pick-and-pop partner with Karl-Anthony Towns, the Timberwolves’ star center and one of Russell’s best friends.
According to The Athletic, the Timberwolves have called about the 23-year-old point guard during this season, but the Warriors have shut down trade conversations.
The Warriors want to see Russell play alongside Stephen Curry before making a decision on his future, multiple team sources have told Bay Area News Group.

the Philadelphia 76ers strike a deal to add a much-needed shooter to the roster before Thursday's trade deadline, it reportedly will not involve veteran big man Al Horford.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on The Woj Pod (h/t Ky Carlin of USA Today Sixers Wire), the Sixers "don't want to" trade Horford because of his size and the belief that the combination of Horford and center Joel Embiid gives them the best chance to beat Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in the playoffs.
While it remains to be seen how the Sixers will make the salaries work in a potential trade, Wojnarowski added that Philly wants to add a shooter after trading Landry Shamet to the Los Angeles Clippers last season and losing JJ Redick in free agency.

So I didn't think 76ers had contracts to match but they do have Mike Scott and Zhaire Smith who work in trade machine. I don't know anything about those players but they don't seem like desirable assets outside of picks and have money going into future years. 76ers do not control first round picks for a while so they are in the same boat as Mavs in that regard. They have a bunch of 2nds but Mavs of course have the GSW pick.

I don't see a 76ers offer better than what Mavs can put on the table in that Mavs can add better players and a better pick.

The Rox had no picks or matching salaries until they put Capela on the table which they just did. With Capela out there they have the salary match as well as an asset that could convert to picks and/or players being sent to the Wolves. I could see that happening.

Both Miami and Denver will look other places for help, too; the Heat are among teams who have expressed interest in Danilo Gallinari, for instance, sources say.

• Teams who have called about JJ Redick have been shooed away, sources say. Reminder: Everything is fluid.

The Bogdan Bogdanovic situation could go to the wire. The Lakers and Hornets are among teams who have expressed interest, sources say.

Dre talks aren’t totally dead but it’s not a sure thing either. The pistons won’t get much of a return if they do trade him.

Teams have reached out about Christian Wood and Svi. He said moving Wood may not be a bad move considering his free agency.

League sources say pistons can move Markieff Morris for a second if they want to.

The Grizzlies are a playoff team as things stand now. They surely know they cannot buy out Iguodala so their potential first-round opponent might snag him for free. That would demoralize their players, and just look bad for them and the NBA.

Regarding Minny. Towns-Wiggins is just not working, that is clear by now. So they have to do something. I guess starting over (selling Towns) is not an option, so they need to improve. If I am them, I would go pretty much all in on Russell. There is no other clear way of considerable short term upgrade. Wiggins contract is borderline unmovable and will not get serious assets back. If the only obstacle is the 2020 unprotected first, I expect Minny to change their stance till TDL.

With the deadline looming on Thursday, the Warriors and Timberwolves remain engaged in trade conversations centered around D’Angelo Russell, league sources told The Athletic. There remain obstacles to overcome, but if the teams were to pull off a deal, it could be the closest thing to the kind of blockbuster that often highlights the frantic final days before the deadline.
So far in the Warriors-Timberwolves talks, Golden State would only consider a deal that has significant draft pick compensation as part of any Minnesota package, according to league sources. As a team currently in a rebuild, the Timberwolves are reluctant to sacrifice too much of their own draft capital in deals, including one for Russell.
Minnesota is believed to have drawn a line in the sand in any Russell trade talks with the Warriors, that being an unwillingness to part with its unprotected 2020 first-round pick.
“There is a deal to be had here,” one source said, “but something would have to give.”
There would have to be significant movement from one side or the other to get a deal done this week, and the Wolves continue to canvas the league for other possible deals given the difficulties involved in acquiring Russell right now.
Even if a deal is not completed this week, it would likely only constitute a pause in the talks between the teams, not the end.
The Knicks have also registered interest in Russell and discussed potential packages, league sources said.

Mavs not mentioned in any of these rumors, which means we'll probably make a deal.

I would have loved to get Tristan until we got WCS. He'd be redundant now.
