I think a fair deal for both the Mavs and Wood would be 2 years & $30m with a TO. Not quite the $35m he hoped for but still a good contract with a chance to build his value on the next deal.
There's half a season left plus playoffs. His value if he balls out could skyrocket based on what he does. Makes no sense for him to sign anything until then. He might have defensive issues, but he will not be played off the court in the playoffs because he can't do anything else offensively except roll like Powell, which makes him useless when teams play drop in PnR. Which means he's guaranteed plenty of minutes assuming teams do that again, limiting Powell's usefulness, which there's no reason for them not to.
