I know what Wood is producing at the moment for this team and how he fits in with our superstar, 

This is the main thing for me.
Wood's fit with Luka is just too good in offense, and if Wood is making strides in defense -- that's the kicker.

With Wood, it doesn't have the feel of "ÿou go get that Luka and I'm gonna get mine later".

You think Wood will take 2 years of security instead of 4?

Mavs are basically saying they're trading him.
Being "open" to a Wood extension is just a way for the FO to say -- "we did our best" to retain him.
