THJ had two seasons were he ranked among the ten best volume 3-point shooters in the league. That was a really valuable player for the Mavs and the reason for his contract extension. Now his role changed. The Mavs have a new scheme. And to make things even worse it seems like he lost his shooting touch. Doesn´t help that they are asking him to handle some of the bench creation duties. That´s just not his game.
Not the first time that it happened to a shooter. Probably won´t be the last time. Duncan Robinson or our very own Davis Bertans would be other examples. But it won´t stop the trend. Elite shooters get paid. Spacing is more important than ever and there is a big difference between the Kleber´s or DFS´s of the world and guys like THJ (in 2019 and 2020).
