They’re going to end up having to take a shitty return like the Harden trade.

Simmons being "not mentally ready to play" is a total bs copout on his part.  It's the one aspect of the CBA where he can still get paid even if he doesn't play.

Let's see:

Simmons sat out games at LSU.  He sat out games in the Summer League after he was drafted.  He sat out a whole year with the 76ers once before.  And now he is sitting out again.

He has absolutely no work ethic.  As soon as he started dominating his competition, he refused to work on his game and get better.  When he no longer was "the best player on the court" he still does not want to improve, he is just happy being what he is.

He is one of the poster boys for why many can't stand the way the league is going.  During an efin' pandemic where the government shut down many businesses and there are thousands of people out of work....  we have a so called superstar won't suit up because he got his feeling hurts because he doesn't want to shoot an effin' basketball farther out than 10 feet.  Talk about a spoiled brat.

I swear NBA players should be At Will employees.  There should never be a guaranteed contract with one exception: disability due to an horrific injury.

How could we get Ayton, is that realistic? That's maybe the type of player we need? Not only a "small big" like KP and DP and to some extent also Maxi. But one that plays big as well. But i havent seen him enough to evaluate how he would fit.

I wonder what are peoples opinion on Ayton?

How did he look in the playoffs is the question.

Mavs need to blow this thing up asap.   Major moves are needed, imo.

Obviously you have to be smart/tactical about blowing it up and making major moves...and I dont know if Ayton moves the needle for the Mavs...but if he does and is gettable and we think he moves the needle....go for it.

What would it take? KP for Ayton?

I dont see Ayton as superstar and maybe a max is not justified. But we have another big that is in the same category... I havent seen enough of him. But I do have impression he is far more consistent on defense than KP and plays as a big. On offense he has all around skills from shooting to finishing at the rim. Not as good shooter as KP, maybe something in between DP and KP? Might be a better fit for the team who knows. But there are some red flags about his personality (maybe).

I think out issues are with lack of 3andD talent.

And apparently the only way to get these guys is through the draft, overpaying or be in a destination city.   And the Mavs absolutely refuse to draft.

Granted he's still young, but Ayton is going to want max money which he seems to inconsistent to warrant.  Having that much money tied up in Ayton/KP doesn't seem like smart team building.  If the Suns aren't willing to pay max money for Ayton, I doubt they'd want KP via trade.

Was just on tradenba looking around and saw a huge trade where we give up KP, Kleber and 3 firsts fir Koncar, Brooks, Adams and Jones and a Mem 2nd (it was in a 4 team trade where Mem got KP and Simmons).

That got me thinking… I REALLY like Brooks game and would love to have him here. KP and JJJ on there would be pretty great…when they’re both healthy.

Is this enough?

KP/2025 1st/2022 2nd for Brooks/Adams?

I didn’t realize Brooks was 6’7”. A lineup of:

Luka/JB/Burke
THJ/Frank/Brown
Brooks/Bullock/Green
DFS/Kleber/Powell
Adams/WCS/Bobi/Brown

Adams and Brooks bring that thick toughness that we don’t have on this team and that looks more like a group of players that Kidd would thrive with. Brooks is s secondary ballhandler so we get that covered with the starting unit too!

I like the framework, I don't like the cost.

I don't think the Mavs adding a first is worth Dillon Brooks. I love Adams, but the guy was just used as a salary dump and shouldn't carry that much value. Further the Grizz have Jackson Jr. that plays almost exactly the same role as KP, being a lanky stretch 4 that mainly spots up and blocks shots at a high rate. Funnily enough he's also injury prone.

I think there are better analogues of that type of frame work. For example, the Kings might bite on a Buddy/Holmes or Buddy/Bagley trade for KP (*the latter I find more realistic), and I don't think it would cost a first at all.

Another one could be with the Cavs+Thunder. KP to the Cavs. Favors+Sexton to the Mavs. Minor compensation to the Thunder for Favors.

Point is that FRP need to be used in getting a return that's more substantial than Brooks, at least to me.
