Not a fan of the 76ers but it would be nice if a team can pull it of. Recent examples show that star players can force trades and end up where they want to be. Davis to the Lakers. Harden to the Nets.
Would be a positive signal for teams like the Pelicans (Zion), Wizards (Beal) or even the Mavs (Doncic?) if a team "wins" the power struggle.

So I have to ask the board...is Simmons fixable or is he FUBAR for the rest of his career?

Can you send him to some Zen retreat in Arizona and get his head adjusted?

As he stands right now, DAL has no business trying to trade for him. But is there even a glimmer that he can find a path to improve his mental game? Physically, he's all you could ask for.

He comes with major red flags. His exit from LSU was messy too.

However, I would trade KP for him in a heartbeat. But to pretend that it wouldn't be a risk would be a lie. But KP is a risk too. I would exchange those risks if I was the GM.

You would trade KP for an empty soup can....so glad you are not the GM on this particular issue.

Personally, I think Simmons has shown that he is broken mentally since he came into the league.   From the refusal to even attempt one, to the pushback and refusal to work on it, and to brashly say "I'll just do what I'm good at." (in this limited context -- sometimes that's not a bad thing to say - re: Wes Matthews tank commander/playmaker - "Just shoot and D, man") -- that was the LARGEST red flag on his career ever for me.  It wrote a book, and that was my opinion long before he was ever considered a Mavs prospect.  I would have only taken him if we were desperate, but honestly, right now, we aren't desperate in that way.  We are desperate in one way, or we should be ---  to get the right people around Luka and not screw around with that.  The LAST thing we need in here is the "wrong" person whatever that is.

Re:  Simmons -- Anyone who literally can't muster up the courage to shoot a FT or a 3 pointer, with the gifts he has physically, with what is before him -- and he is an amazing athlete -- is a GIANT red flag.  His shooting has simply gotten worse in a lot of ways, even though statistically, he has improved slightly, which boggles my mind to even say, but it has.  It's sad...it's like if Wilt was agoraphobic or blind.  Awesopme talent, debilitating limitation...obviously that is an extreme hyperbole to accentuate the point, it's not that bad, but it is bad.

To get slightly statistically better and yet more afraid to take a shot and that improvement be worthwhile...and that is mental.

You can bind up a knee, surgically repair it and stay off of it a while and it heal.
You can go on a vacation, have some counseling and then come back stronger.

Sometimes, the knee never gets right...and neither does the mind, at least to the level that you can push them in competition against the harshest tests of comparisons, and dominate as you should be, like in professional sports.

So is Embiid insulting Simmons, criticizing Doc Rivers, or both?

For such a talented team, Philly is a dumpster fire right now.

I think Simmons can be salvaged.  I think the situation in Philly is fascinating.   Philly is in a win now move so any move they make needs to not be a step back.  For all his shortcomings, his peak level of play is very good.   I am sure Morey was hoping to land either Beal or Lillard.   The issue is neither is available now and in time a few other teams may be able to beat their offer.   If they could rehab Simmons a little to start the season, they would be able to stay in a pretty good spot for a big trade later.  The big elephant in the room is what would happen if Simmons and his agent didn't let this happen and caused a mess.   Both Morey and Rich Paul are strong minded and this could get real interesting.

For me, I was hoping Simmons wound up in Toronto.  I think that team could really do wonders for him.  The issue is Philly was supposedly was looking for a crazy return for Toronto.   I am not sure if there is a real fit there that keeps Philly in contention.   Siakem maybe but he plays the same position as Tobias.   I do think Simmons is the big move that Masai is looking for.    Although the same issue that will play out between Morey and Paul is true with Morey and Masai as well.  Neither guy likes to give anything away.

Philly has to clean up the roster. Embiid/Simmons is a horrible fit. Add Harris and it gets even worse. Two guys that like to operate in the ellbow area and create a lot of their offense in face up or post up situations. A primary ballhandler that cannot shoot and needs the ball in his hands with the max amount of space in the paint to create offense for himself and others.

It´s never going to work and they should have traded one of them last summer. I am pretty sure that Morey has similar thoughts. He already identified the biggest need and stole Curry from the Mavs. Traded Horford to the Thunder. Tried to bring in more shooting and add guys that don´t need the ball.
A team with Simmons needs a Luka like build. Shooting all around. Ideally a stretch big or at least a good rim runner at center. A team with Embiid needs a floor general that can also play off the ball. Lowry would have been great for 76ers. I think a Lillard/Embiid pairing would end up like Harden/Howard. One guy with the ball in his hands creating from the perimeter. The other asking for post touches but not getting them. No real two-man game.

Not sure where Harris fits. Feels like I am watching a player from another era. Takes nearly half of his shot attempts from midrange. If he wants to fit next to another "star" player he needs to make some adjustments. More 3-point volume off the ball. Can still create for himself when the co-star is on the bench.

Curry, Korkmaz and Green are the best complementary pieces they have. Shooting, defense and some playmaking. They probably beat the Hawks with a healthy Green.

Not sure about the rest of the roster. Maxey and Thybull cannot shoot. The Thybull-Howard minutes killed them in the series against the Hawks. Now they replaced Howard with Drummond. Not sure how that is going to change anything. I guess they can hope for internal improvement. Maybe one of them develops a 3.
