How about a Dragic for Powell trade?

I guess I just ask myself why Ujiri would agree to a sign and trade of Dragic.  My thinking would be, he wants to return value.  I know Dwight Powell is Canadian and that's an interesting story, but his contract is a negative value.  He could probably flip Dragic at the TDL to a needy contender.  It just doesn't add up in my head.

If this is true, it's an interesting development. The Bucks have no way to offer him more than the taxpayer MLE ($5.xM). That means he's in play to someone.

Isn't he competing for the same openings and money as Holmes? Are there enough teams with that sort of money (or more) for a center, or not?

Maybe Portis isn't gonna get 15M, but isn't he worth at least a full MLE (which is 4 yrs $42M)? Neither Holmes nor Portis can be acquired via sign-and-trade, which limits the competition considerably, when you get past the MLE.

If you took the least expensive of the two, what would that cost? If you could get rid of Powell, isn't either of them a significant upgrade?

I don't consider Portis in same league as Holmes.  Don't we have enough poor defensive bigs?

I could have a wrong read on this, but it seems like there are a lot of players seeking a lot of money that isn't going to be there for teams to spend. It feels like there will be a lot of guys taking less this year and that there might be some good "bargain hunting" to be found once the biggest names grab the lion's share of the capspace.

Donnie used to call that very thing "plan powder". Keep your powder dry, be opportunistic. Seems like from looking at the Olympics, the Mavs only need to upgrade. Didn't Donnie say it was an upgrade business?

He is doing it because it is a salary match and Miami is throwing in assets.  Dragic is negative value contract as well.  It might be more tolerable due to single year, but he would not get close to 19 mil on open market.
