As long as we have a KP trade completed or one ready to execute, I have no issues giving the full max to JC.

Yeah, IF the plan is to max Collins (and possibly give something of value up in a sing-and-trade), I'd certainly feel much better about it if Porzingis was transformed into either space or 2-3 rotation-worthy players who will actually be available to play.

Understand the hesitation with JC, but he actually has very high value in the modern NBA. The ability to stretch the floor like KP on offense, but unlike KP be athletic enough to actually defend the 4, play big enough to be a small ball 5 and still roll to the rim and be a capable rebounder.

He just needs a legit 5 (like Capela) to play with most of the time. The prerequisite is KP is gone for sure.

The Mavs would have a frontcourt that would be very hard to expose in the playoffs IMO.

Did you forget he was a key cog on that OKC team that made the Finals and lost to the Heat?

I just remember him switching into Hero-ball mode and losing games because he forgot there were 4 other players on the floor.

Luka has a little of that as well. I think any player with his level of skills and desire to win will often consider himself the best option, especially on a rough night. I hope Kidd can coach him out of it, but it's going to take reliable pieces around LD to get there.

I believe we have to have the space to sign Collins to the offer sheet. 

I suppose it’s possible we could work directly with ATL on a s&t without going through the RFA process but would lose all leverage in a trade without the space to sign him. Also we’d have to salary match for Collins if we have no space left, which ATL wouldn't want.

I think you would just need the agreement with ATL in place. When you execute it would then be about "order of operations" to maximize the team's flexibility.

Watching Collins in the playoffs I saw a player who knew you have to box out and got rebounds when it was 1vs4 at the basket and he got the ball...

I never seen any Mav box out and usually it was 4 Mavs getting beat by 1 opponent for a rebound...

ATL's defensive rebounding percent was 2% higher when JC played than when he sat in the playoffs. That is a pretty big number for that stat, that makes a significant impact.

Collins fixes our pathetic rebounding efforts we have all blasted at one time or another...I was on the Collins train and then seen him every game in the playoffs and realized he put a body or hand on an opposing player every time a shot went up...seeing him out muscle several players for rebounds also...I saw a person with the natural instincts to not ball watch as we had to endure with our front court players...

The last three seasons he has impacted ATL's team rebounding by +2-4% which again is a big number that has a noticeable impact in the win column.

Mavs were 4th in the league at rebounding last year. This year 21st. 

That's a pretty drastic change especially for not losing anyone in our big rotation.

I would argue that they lost two players from their big rotation: Porzingis and Powell. Neither were ever great rebounders, but both were only half the player they used to be, overall.

Collins is too much of a pipe dream.  He'll get multiple max offers from other clubs.  Not only would Atlanta have to decline to match the offer, which I think they will, Collins would have to pick Dallas over other suitors.  That seems like a good way to waste your time and tie up your money at the beginning of free agency while other, gettable free agents sign elsewhere.
