2021-2022 ROSTER TALK: [ARCHIVED]
Brunson will NOT extend because 120% of 1.8 is still less than 3 million dollars.
Brunson is not accepting a contract starting at less than the BAE when his value is MUCH closer to the FULL MLE.

I think one of the extension options is 120% of the average salary also.

If I understand right, it’s up to 120% of average player salary which would be the MLE.

That seems like a fair deal for DFS if you consider his entire career and not just the end of the year last year.

I'd probably rather see Brunson traded than signed for that number.

That's just the max they're eligible for. Doesn't mean that's what we'd have to pay them. I think maybe Brunson in the 8-10 million range and DFS at 12 is fair.

I was really hoping for Brunson at 6-8 and DFS at 8-10.  Maybe I'm crazy.

I just look at it from the standpoint of, "could I trade this contract somewhat easily and return value."  I wouldn't trade for Jalen on a $10m contract and I'd have to think long and hard about DFS at $12m.  Those pennies I pinched for both are also $4m.

IF Dallas kicks the cap space one more year then extending Brunson would be a mistake...

Dallas needs to be ready to jump on a deal when Luka only counts 200% of his 20-21 salary. Having a cap hold on Brunson for 3.6 million while holding Bird Rights keeps a lot of the space intact, that Brunson having signed an extension (120% of Avg salary) will have consumed on July 1 2022. Hopefully after next week we won't be worrying about cap space for the summer of '22, and quite possibly means extending Brunson won't be our decision to process.

It does feel like Devonte Graham is a name to keep an eye on.. once we get past the Lowry/THJ silliness.

I think Graham would be a great fit. Good shooter/playmaker, decent defender, only 26 years old, and likely half the price of Lowry.

Move Burke+2nd for cap space. Next, Brunson+Powell to Toronto (or NY) with Graham S&T to Dallas at around 48/3. Then you could keep WCS and still have 29M and the rMLE to round out the roster.

Im really not in the Lowry club, too much money for a guy who is 35. Tim is good but streaky, not sure he is worth what he will ask for either

Free agency sucks this year and we have little to no assets, going to be hard to flip the roster this summer.

Can anyone offer me some names?   I have been in favor of Demar plus a 3 and D guy from the start.   I like the Lowry chase, as I think him and Hardaway would be the best direction, but that is going to be very tough to fit in our caproom and get Lowry to commit.

The 3 And D person with Derozan I was thinking about was Danny Green or Batum.   I think either would be good fits, but the more I am thinking about it, I would prefer a younger guy with more upside and someone who can rebound better and also create some.   I am just having trouble finding that player or finding a player who would fit with Derozan.   Do you have any names?

If the Mavs lose out on Lowry, I think it will be a real big test for the new leadership.  They want Hardaway back and that is understandable.  But is resigning Hardaway minus Lowry the best way to build this roster for the future?    My conclusion is it is not.  The goal for me was updating your 3-5 starters.  Resigning Hardaway limits your ability to do this imo.

Reggie Jackson scares me, but would Derozan and Jackson work in an unconventional lineup?   Most of these combinations seem to be missing something.  I can see a path to a championship contender with Lowry and Hardaway with some big "ifs", but everyone else I don't see quite enough at the moment.

We’ll, they’ve already been connected to Sterling Brown who would seem to fit the bill of a younger 3&D option.
