Nobody ever wants to hear this, but the roster spots are pretty precious. Can't just snap your fingers and ditch a few guys just because a few fans want them gone.

To get into this draft, they'd basically have to like a player better than Tyler Bey and be willing to pay whatever price it took to get him. And, it's not like that hypothetical player would've played much. They could've offered up the entire team and not been able to afford a lottery pick.

Nico needs to turn some lemons into lemonade but short of cash considerations, getting into the second round doesn't seem optimal.  If the new MBT doesn't squander SRPs like skittles moving forward, I'd say that's a huge step in the right direction.

Wish we'd pick up Vrenz as well. But I do at least like that we're target length, athleticism, and defense with our UDFA prospects. Those are the kind of guys you take a flyer on

He can jump out of the gym.  Luka's new favorite teammate.

A tad disappointing with the UDFA brought in so far.   I wasn't expecting much but there were several guys who went in the last 10 of the draft who were intriguing to me and a few others who went undrafted.

I mentioned both Hunt and Onu yesterday as guys I would love to see on our summer league team to get a closer look at, but I don't think either are guaranteed as a two-way.   I am interested in seeing them both this summer.

Both Jones and Omoruyi were both good college players (and a little older) but I would be surprised if either are strong two way candidates.

I was hoping for one clear two way guy.   I read last night twitter speculation that the Mavs may want both Hinton and Bey on their two way.  My hope is Hinton makes the team and we will see about Bey.   I can understand if the team had a different viewpoint on that.

I thought both the Knicks and Philly had real nice second rounds with getting solid quantity.

Here are Sam Vecenie Rankings on our four guys we are bringing in.  He rated his top 100.

Hunt- Not rated
EJ Onu- 73-  Good write up on him.  Mentions that if a team is patient could have a similar path as Chris Boucher who took 3 years of slow development.
Carlik Jones 74- Mentions his toughness and would be a lower 2 way target.  Says the key for him is becoming an elite shooter and says right now he is not even a good shooter.
Eugene Omoruyi- 80- compares him to Eric Paschall but not as athletic or used to switching defensively.

I guess the one name I was really hoping to see was Moses Wright-Georgia.   When it was announced he worked out with us, I watched his highlights and wasn't blown away.  He is a very good athlete but thought he was similar former mav second round pick Ray Spalding.   It is just so tough to make it in the NBA.  Spalding was athletic, good size and pretty good skills.  But those guys are a dime a dozen, so I sort of had Wright pegged there.  Although I read more on Wright and he got a late start with basketball and was a former swimmer and tennis player.   He got better each year at Tech and this past year was the ACC player of the year.

He is probably holding out for a guaranteed two way deal, but I would have liked to see him join the rest of the guys.

Bummer for Vrenz, but makes sense....he wants to be in the NBA and wants a contract, no one was willing to offer a normal contract.

I don't know a ton about him but it is still a little confusing.  For instance, I could see his size and BBIQ working well alongside Luka.  Maybe there is concern about his weight?

I think he and his team created a lot of hype around him. Rarely seen a guy that wasn´t even mocked as a 2nd round pick just a few month ago with similar social media activity. Felt like he worked out for the entire league but no one was willing to give him a contract. That´s not a good look for him. Maybe he is super talented and the teams missed out. Maybe he just bought into his own hype and is trying to save face.

And that´s why you don´t waste roster spots on guys like Burke...

That's fair.  I really don't know a ton about him outside of highlight videos which is a terrible way to evaluate.  I do think his passing ability was easily translate along with his height.

Granted the contract situation complicates things but the guys we signed as UDFAs, Vrenz certainly pops in comparison to most of them.

-Feron's athletic ability pops.  Reminds me a bit of DJJ.
-Eugene has a big frame which kind of reminds of the Morris brothers or Tucker but nothing else jumps out at me.
-EJ has size but looks like a long term project.
-Carlik carries on the Mavs tradition of loving little guards.

I don't really know anything since my favorite of that group seems to be the lowest rated of any of them.  haha

I don't know, is it bad for him that he wasn't worth a 1st round pick? I mean, he seems like second round pick worthy, but NBA rules prevent him from that. This could be the fuel he needs to get in the NBA in the future. Just needs to improve and get guys around him to help him get there.

If you look at the two "on paper" favorites the Media will have entering the season it is probably the Lakers and the nets.  The Lakers stole a lot of the headlines last night but the Nets quietly had a good night.

They lost Shamet and will probably lose Jeff Green.  They probably hope to lose DeAndre too but that may be more difficult.

But they added 5 rookies:  Cam Thomas, Day'ron Sharpe, Kessler Edwards, Marcus Zegarwoski and RaiQuan Gray.

I have only watched highlights of most but Thomas appears to have one great skill: scoring.  It may not be as needed in Brooklyn as in other places, but I could see him scoring 12 points in a quarter of a playoff game.    Sharpe needs time to develop but in time he could be their big body center to use against the bigger teams.

Their second round picks probably won't help much right now but Edwards is a long wing with some interesting traits.   Zegarwoski has some Seth Curry in him and I am a big fan of RaiQuan Gray.
