I have done nothing unloving to him.

I think the number he is basing his evaluation of defense is a bad number. I think people should know that.

Other than that I called him out for creating false narratives about me.

I said nothing about him personally at any point.

Bama, I know it's dumb of me to poke the bear, but I generally respect your fandom and presume you've watched the games. There is zero way you're dumb enough to defend KP's defense using the eye test this past year. Everyone could see he was unspeakably abominable. If that's up for argument, it's a basketball Twilight Zone. A defense for KP's defense (ha-ha) as we saw it in 2020-21 is simply non-existent. Use eye test, use stats, use defensive metrics, use whatever the heck you want, but he was a defensive apocalypse this year. That's simple basketball fact. Everyone else without exception on this board agrees on that, even SH if I'm not mistaken, as well as every single Mavs fan I know outside this board, as well as many print and voice talent commentators throughout the league who are supposed to be experts to some extent or another. I have to believe you aren't asserting otherwise. It would be like being a Trump supporter going to an antifa meeting to talk about how to get Trump reelected. It would be presuming something not held by anyone else there, and not being very perceptive to recognize that one held an outlying opinion in that particular group (in this case, not just Mavs fans, but basketball observers around the country).

Now, there are obvious mitigating factors. Some believe his defense was bad because he was rushed back too soon from his injuries and didn't have an offseason, so that he will be better next year. Kamm's theory is that it's all in his head, that he got down because of conflicts with RC and Luka because of how he was being used on the offensive end, and therefore essentially gave up on defense, so that could be fixed this year.

But what if it's that he's never going to be the same after the meniscus injury? That's the Occam's razor presumption. I'd say the chances of his being able to return to defensive competence or dominance add up to 50-50. That's an enormous wager, because if you're wrong, your team defense is absolutely cooked until that contract runs out. And what if he returns even to his old defensive dominance - and then suffers yet another major injury?

Since I cannot believe you would defend KP's defense this past year as an intelligent fan who watched the games, I have to believe you're on the side of wagering on his recovery. Between the gross uncertainty of his defensive recovery, the risk of his sustaining another injury, and any friction between him and Luka, I'm not willing to take that wager and believe he's got to go now. There are 29 other teams in the league. Unless your new GM is an atrocious negotiator, the Mavs should be able to get back something of worth. It won't be worth the guy you're betting on KP becoming. But it will be worth several times what KP will end up being worth if you're wrong, and the odds are against you.

Yeah, I am 100% in the camp that KP's D COULD improve to older levels.

My only issue is using "defensive rating" to evaluate D.

I think KP WAS a better defender once upon a time than RH or JC. I think this past season RH and JC were VASTLY better. Can KP recover his D? Time will tell.

It's more about saying he's changed or not wanting to engage him.  My graduating class in high school was 10 students.  I often hear discussions about what cliques people belonged to when they were kids.  Who you liked or didn't like.   With that small of a student body, we had no choice but to like and hang out with one another.  The active membership of this board is pretty small so I've always viewed it as my high school.  We just all have to get along even when we don't like one another or have wildly differing views.

And I'm guilty of that too.  I've had my fair share of stupid arguments.  Sorry to @"hakeemfan"for our tiff.  And anyone else.

Sorry for letting the hippie out but it's been a rough week.  Let's be good to one another.

Wow.

Who's hard on the dude? I know you're not talking about me, because I never engage with him out of fear that he'll find me and try to start a fist fight. Seriously, every three days I log on to find him absolutely scorching someone with all the hatred of a typical Karen writing a Yelp review.

Look, I LIKE the guy. I just hope he finds his way to a good mood at some point.

Dude, I am literally the choir on this. I want nothing but LOVE on this board (and good numbers). Smile

Relax.

If he ripped someone, talk to him.  Try to steer that energy to something more positive.

I should also apologize to @"Scott41theMavs".  We've had our moments too.  WCS brings out the worst in me.  haha

I am in my most relaxed state right now. Heart rate steady. Not upset in the least. Laughing because I'm not sure we're reading the same board. But, hey - opinions vary, and that's what makes this place great.

Maybe this was too personal to air in public - I said it out of concern. Might have been a mistake, but it's about as caring and positive as I get.

Certainly didn't mean to offend him, and I literally can't believe it offended you. My apologies.

I'm not calling out anyone in particular was my point.  haha

The guys who CAN stay on the floor during crunch time are some of the most valuable players in the league. If we had Collins/Holmes against the clips and they go small we would’ve punished them on the inside while also having enough length and athleticism to defend at a higher level than we did. If they are then forced to keep Zubac on the floor… Luka just torched him again.

Like this opinion but am uncertain that Collins and Holmes could stay on the floor vs., say, the Clips or the Suns. Would like to hear more about why folks think they could.

Because they both have the lateral quickness and agility to spend some time on the perimeter and switch the pick and roll. And offensively they probably force the other team to play bigger because they can both punish you inside on the pick and roll.

Please god. No Dinwiddie.

Ok there's always a silver lining. At least Dinwiddie is better than Oubre!!
