2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived
The 2019 Offseason could be the watershed moment if the Mavs FO can't improve the roster construction significantly this offseason.

Mavs life would be much easier if we were living in the timeline where they didn't allow themselves to be the annual FA losers and instead went after and secured Malcolm Brogdon.  In that timeline the Mavs also aren't playing for 2021 cap space and add any one of the numerous quality MLE guys in 2020.

That Mavs timeline where they aren't worried about capspace to stupidly chase RFAs and wind up with dollar store leftovers (see Wright, Delon) in the 2021 offseason and so they are more aggressive at the 2021 deadline and pickup Aaron Gordon.

KP - Gordon - 2020 MLE (J. Crowder) - Brogdon - Luka
2020 BAE (D. Howard) - Kleber - DFS - THJ - Brunson

8. Mikal Bridges
9. Okoro
10. Payton

13. Brogdon
14. Simmons
15. Schröder

1 I notice DFS and J-Rich on that list. Clearly they are the fuel that has propelled the Mavs' improved defense. (Noteworthy that Seth Curry is on the opposite list.)
2 Brogdon isn't available (and never was, given the fact it took a 1st round pick to get him, and the Mavs didn't have one or more to beat that offer). But Lonzo may be, and his inclusion here is intriguing.

Two things jump out at me.

1.  Lonzo.  Dallas has clearly made defending point of attack and shot creators a priority in its acquisitions of DWright and JRich.  Lonzo Ball absolutely jumps off the page with Holiday gone.

2.  If you have to hide someone, they better be worth it...Zion, Lebron, Luka, Ingram, Steph, DeRozan.  No need to apply if you have to be hidden and you aren’t worth it...Cedi, McDermott, Seth, Ross.

Dude is legit as a defender.

If he fits the "secondary creator" mold the Mavs are looking for, then I would be all in on him.

But I personally still want the John Collins/Richaun Holmes help in the front court FIRST.

Some people have McDermott as a favored target for this offseason. Hmmm....

I like McDermott if he’s relatively cheap and coming off the bench. I don’t think that’s crazy. I haven’t heard anybody advocating for giving him big money or a big role. It probably doesn’t matter since shooters get paid he’ll likely get an bigger offer than any of us pro Dougie people would like. But we need to get some high-level shooting in here to put around Luka. There’s a few other cheaper options out there that are probably more realistic and palatable for everybody.

Thank you kind sir!

My takeaway is that Ball and Schroeder need to be on the due diligence list.

Due diligence/run out the ground ball list
1. Conley
2. CP3
3. Lowry
4. Ball
5. Schroeder

Highly unlikely we have a chance on any of those guys. Still, need to contact them and get something done prior to FA or move on

Brogdon should be high on the trade list. Maybe number 1. In a hypothetical KP wants out scenario, Indy makes sense as THE team or the 3rd team

Also, what is New Orleans even doing? None of their moves make sense. Their new GM is supposed to be high quality and did well on the AD trade. The Adams extension looks dumb. I don’t see any way they let Ball walk without getting a big time return. Even if they have to match and he demands a trade

Also, this kind of talk feels like a bit of an over reaction to a bad loss against our probably worst matchup without our second best player.  The real mistake here is we don't know how to rest players correctly.  We should have played Maxi against SA (which probably would have been a win) and rested everybody in this game.  There have been several times where we have gotten cute with resting players and lost games we should not have.  I hope we get that shit fixed soon as it is costing us games we cant afford.

You should post more often...I enjoy reading your posts...
Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

Meanwhile, DFS (7th) and J-Rich (11th) are on the top-15 guys with the HARDEST matchups this season. This gave me reason for concern about DDR's fit here defensively. If he came, he or Luka would have to guard the 2nd or 1st option (maybe Maxi with one of them hidden on the opponent's PF).

That's definitely fair. The way I look at it is that you try to have the other 3 guys really good at defense. Luka also has improved in that area and I think playoff Luka especially will be good defensively.

The Nets were like defense is fine but we can put 3 top 10 offensive players on the same team so let's do that. They are the favorites in the East. We will see how they do against teams like the Sixers that play good defense.

For the Mavs you wouldn't have 3 top 10 players, you would have 1 top 10 guy and two top 30 scorers. The thing I like about it is in the playoffs everyone is trying on defense and buckets are hard to come by. I like having 3 guys that can get some tough buckets.

I imagine Doug is at least full MLE value at this point. Great shooting numbers off the bench.

We've had our shots at Schroeder so I don't think he's in the cards.  Ball would be great but I'm not sure the Pels let him go and if they do, I see New York being interested and offering a larger role on the offense.

I wonder if Siakam's season is going to lead to him getting traded in the offseason.  He'd be number one if Toronto has interest in KP.

I like Lonzo but I am in the camp that he's not actually available (either NO matches or it takes a big S&T to get him).

Best free agent of the summer: Masai Ujiri.

Overpay and give him the freedom to rebuild around Luka. No interference from Cuban. Donnie can do some scouting in europe or manage the Legends.

We should have recruited Morey.  I wonder if Presit is bored now that he proved he can get all the picks.

Honestly think that most of them wouldn´t even consider Dallas. To much interference from the owner. Morey wants full control. He was against the Westbrook trade and was pretty much done with the team and the owner when they ignored him.

DDR is kind of old and doesn’t seem well suited to play five out offense (but I really don’t know what the Spurs run).  I’m not really interested in spending big money on him.

This is a ridiculous take. He is not old, he is 31. Stats are great, it's not like he is in some steep decline. Right the 5 out offense doesn't work as well when he is off-ball but look he's a great offensive player. There are only so many of those available, I think he brings more to the table than most of the other ideas I have seen.

I agree dance dance revolution is quite an old game but you can still find it in some malls.
