Back on topic: What can the Mavs get for expirings and picks.
Slightly different idea...
Step 1: Lift restrictions on the 2023 1st in a trade with the Knicks
WCS + 2021 2nd + lift restrictions on 2023 1st --> Frank Ntilikina
Step 2: Use the 2025 1st in a trade and upgrade the roster
Johnson + Burke + 2025 1st --> Fournier + Bamba

I don't think that's possible in a practical way. In a world of endless minutes and endless payroll, perhaps - but that's not real life.
Maxi and Gallo play essentially the same role - a bigger wing who can hit 3s. And Maxi is the guy who needs to play, if you have both.
Maybe you can find room if you have a serious chunk of minutes going to Atlanta, but who would that be? And if you're sending minutes, you are using a player talented enough that it matters, rather than accepting a salary dump. Given the 20M a year price tag, just doesn't seem worth the cost on all levels.

This OKC game is why the Mavs need a 3rd star
If I can add Kemba to the team without letting go of KP or JB I do it in a heartbeat

Plenty? For the 8th or 9th man? Not really. That's only about a 10-15 mpg slot. And besides, the Mavs aren't paying 20M to fill such a small role, while adding a player who will be unhappy being limited to so few minutes. You fill those minutes with players like WCS, Burke, Boban, etc who are paid far less then MLE dollars with expectations to match.

Jackie MacMullan in Bill Simmons podcast says that the Timberwolves want John Collins really, really bad. I don't know if they'll pull off a trade for him before the deadline, but it's just further stating the obvious that he's definitely going to get a max contract from someone over the summer. I mean, talk about a desperate franchise that has their back to the wall, has to get the ship righted to keep the Superstar and has to do something (even if it's an overpay).
Simmons speculates that Denver and Dallas are the two obvious suitors for Oladipo. Simmons speculates Dallas could give up Josh Green. Denver has more assets than Dallas because they could trade Gary Harris, Bol Bol and picks. Jackie McMullan says Jamal Murray tells her the Nuggets really need a rim protector to complement with Jokic, after losing Grant and Plumlee from last year's team.

Oladipo is a classic case of a guy I wouldn't want now, but could be a different story in a year or so. It is a clear calculated gamble on whether you think the old Oladipo is still possible. I have not watched him this year, but his shooting has been pretty bad. Not sure if this is just him taking a lot of bad shots or if he just doesn't have quickness anymore to get good looks. But he has certainly not been the same player over the past year and half.
It is a gamble that I could see going either way. I just don't have confidence in the mavs front office to make the right decision.
Until I get a better look at him, I would shy away from a trade. I think you would have to give up more than my liking and you would be in trouble if his play does not improve. Although, in a year from now, he could certainly look like he was bought at a discounted rate.

I think if I were trying to evaluate Oladipo this year, I would weigh his time with the the Pacers more heavily than with Houston to try to get an honest assestment. The Pacers at least he knew the system and his teammates. In Houston, he was just aquired to be a trade chip ... no real forethought on how best to use him, how he fits into system or how he complements his teammates (or vice versa). I haven't watched much Oladipo either, but from what I've heard he looked better when he was on the Pacers.

There's no pressure whatsoever on them in "keeping the Superstar." Lillard isn't grumbling, isn't trying to leave, isn't making demands on them, not even a little bit. Just the opposite, in fact - he wants to be a Blazer for life, and says it willingly to anyone who asks.
No one is demanding they make a move or else.
Do they want to improve? Sure. Are they looking for ways to improve, while Lillard is still elite, so that they might win a title? Definitely. And maybe they see this as a great window to make a move, but not necessarily at any price borne of desperation.
The Timberwolves, not Portland.

I heard on LockedOn Mavs that the OKC host would be on board with Powell + a 2nd for George Hill. Sign me up for that!

Might actually be a pretty good buy low asset for Presti as someone who might need another year to come back from his injury and could be flipped later. Or mid range salary fodder to use in a trade if they want to leverage all of their draft picks into an actual player.

Mavs have traded with OKC a lot lately. Getting off that money would be big and OKC actually needs to hit a salary floor so having Powell on the books is not a big deal for them at all.

I wouldn't trade for Dipo considering he's a free agent and how much he'll command. If we are interested and he wants to come here in the off season, great.
OTOH, if we want Collins, it sounds like we need to go all in on a trade which I think I'm okay with.

Yeah I'm interested in Dipo if he's absolutely dirt cheap or if it's a THJ swap.
Otherwise it's too big of a risk he walks to Miami this summer. Plus he may not even be a great fit here anyways if his shooting is terrible.

We should notice the patter. Every really good player that comes on the market someone goes all in. I guess we would have to be really lucky to get someone good on a discount. More likely it will take ALL our remaining assets.
As for Minnesota, they are just crazy. They are already at the tax line and they would add another max player to the mix? Even so another player who is not really a tone setter on defense. I guess we could just be patient and gather assets for KAT
