2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived
Why so little love for Bagley? The guy is active, scores and boards well. This with injuries causing him to never get him fully going. Pair him with Luka and he could be much better. If you want to hit on a wild card in FA why not take a chance? Worst case he is a better version of pre injury Powell. Most of the other names really have no upside.  As for what we can give up, DFS is a good player. Nothing special. Plus he will be 28 in a few months.  Not underrating him but not overrating him either.

There's been a lot of interest in taking a flier but the thinking is the Kings want too much for him.  I'd also worry that he'd end up in Carlisle's doghouse.

I wouldn’t mind taking on Love, I mentioned the idea here a few weeks ago but now I’d ask for at least 2 second rounders and McGee (McGee only because he could instantly be traded elsewhere for extra future draft compensation)

Dal: Love, McGee, SAS 2022 second and WAS 2022 second
CLE: Powell, Johnson, Iwundu

Would you start Love?

To me, KP/Maxi works and you'd play Love with Willie Cauley-Holmes.  Do we want our backup PF making $30 million?  We would always have scoring in the front-court.

I'm not sure I see Cleveland's motivation.  The only person they need to resign this offseason is Allen along with their future draft picks.  With Love, they are 92.6M committed salary next season.

Has Love played any this season?  Would we still be moving KP?  I like the GS idea for KP better then the Atl trade if we are doing this Love thing.

Played the second game of the season, hurt during the 3rd game of the season.

He's like a Montrez Harrell.  He needs the ball to score on ISO plays.  Plays no D.  Best suited as scorer off the bench.  Type of guy that will get exposed in the playoffs.  Tough fit on most good teams.  I don't really see a guy that would play well with Luka, unlike pre injury Powell.

It's possible he has a Julius Randle career arc but that'll likely happen on a crappy team that gives him a lot of usage.

Harrell does not need to iso. He gets plenty of buckets just being active. I love Harrell if we could get him next off-season.

I'm out on adding another KP (Love) to this team. He doesn't put them over the top and kills all flexibility. I realize the big 2021 FA's are mostly off the table, but there are still players available who could make the team significantly better.

Sign THT, keep developing Bey and Green.  You could have a nice defensive rotation next year with:  Maxi, DFS, THT, Bey and Green.

Not really because the Mavs would most likely lose Richardson and THJ in that case. Adding one legit starter but losing two fringe starters isn´t really an upgrade.
Not to mention that the only remaining interesting options in free agency are RFA. In my opinion not having capspace in the summer is a good thing.
Love is obviously not a player that any team should take back without asking for some kind of compensation but if the Cavs are willing to attach a younger prospect, pick or useful rotation piece like Nance that´s not a bad idea.

I think I would start out with Love starting since he is one that can cover bigger bodies. I really think that is this team’s biggest weakness and the reason they are poor defensive rebounders. On offense, he can play the exact same role Maxi plays. If his defense gets us run out of the building after a few games I reassess.

This was my thought immediately after seeing the interest in Love report. Then I saw the interest in Nance report as well and I thought I’d have read someone putting those pieces of info together. If someone has, oops.

I think so too, but I want two seconds and Javale in addition to Love. Rights/cap holds on THJ and Richardson mean you don’t have to lose either of them, and you could explore upgrades via S&T if needed for one or either of them during FA.

I am on board depending on the return. Love shouldn’t be looked at as some big acquisition, if it just so happens that he is the perfect fit and plays better than expected, great, but last year’s numbers on this years contract is what should determine his value in trade.

I think as mentioned Mavs would want McGee as well. Mavs would be taking on some risk that Love can't play any more. We would at least get to dump Powell in the process.

If the Mavericks trade for Kevin Love I am going to lose my mind.

I can’t even deal with the idea that we are seriously discussing it.

I hate basketball.

I think that's probably the most you could expect back for Johnson/Powell.  Love is an upgrade over Powell but with a much heftier contract.  Could help fill the leadership void as he has skins on the wall.  I know it was mentioned that you'd flip McGee but he'd be the best pure center on the team.  Cavs are rebuilding and aren't hurting for cap space so I'm not sure they'd toss in 2nd round picks as sweeteners unless Dan Gilbert is being extremely frugal with the teams salary.

I'm not sure how I love the idea (free pun), it might be a slight improvement for the team but it's probably just spinning our wheels with no long term upside.

I don't think Nance is obtainable by the Mavs.  He's on a sweetheart deal and if the Cavs did decide to let him go, it seems like a lot of other teams are bidding.
