2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived

I actually think that absorbing Blake Griffins contract is a good option in this case. Combine whatever value KP has left with a bad contract to get even more in return. Sadly the Mavs aren´t known for moves like this.

KP + Iwundu + Burke --> Griffin + Stewart + Bey + 2023 1st

Pretty much were I am.    Ultimately the Lakers post AD trade, as well as Brooklyn post-Harden trade, are showing us once again that stars is the only thing that matters in the NBA.   Role players are largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.   The only way KP should be traded is for another star or for picks who could possibly become stars.    Otherwise, the Mavs are best holding onto KP and hoping he can stay healthy long enough to reach his ceiling as a star caliber player.   That's the best path forward for a 2nd star.   Even if the probability of KP ever becoming a star is only 30%, Trading KP for role players moves the franchise backwards.

Also the way I understand it is these GMs talk ab players all the time and dance around specific language of "What will you give me for player X" unless/until things get pretty serious. I don't think Mavs are "shopping" KP but I also don't know what they think bc they don't leak stuff to the media. What you hear are leaks from other front offices that may or may not hint at the Mavs thinking.

This is true, but I gotta say that "scarecrow" comment was a bit out of the ordinary and out of line if that came from an actual NBA GM on the record.  Generally don't think most NBA executives openly talk smack about players on other teams players on the record.   If they have concerns or worries about a player, they'll generally couch it in some generic or genteel way.     That quote could light a fire under KP's butt.

So not sure how Mavs do this without giving up Rich or THJ and if that happens are the Mavs better?

Cousins does fit the mold of a cheap big that has size and can rebound. Not much of a defender, but neither is Drummond for that matter. Cousins also can hit a 3

Further, he can fill that "enforcer" type role we get from Johnson, which makes his expiring even more tradeable. I'd be down for a Cousins move. We need his toughness.  I do think he is on a one way flight to BRK though.

Time to sound the alarm on a scarecrow trade now that it’s 2 games in a row

Really need Donnie to swindle some other team at this moment. It’s not as easy to do that as it used to be

Remember the similar Mavs-related rumors with Kemba in Charlotte? This is just Schwartz code for "maybe you should trade my guy to Dallas."

Gallo and Collins for KP, Green, Terry, 2027 1st

Also like the idea of removing the protections on our NYK picks and incorporating NYK as a 3rd team in a trade

DAL: Vucevic, Fournier and Gordon

NYK: burke, Terry and removal of pick protection

ORL: KP, Johnson, Green, Mavs 2025 FRP and asset from NYK

Are we trying to tank this season?

Dallas gets a pick from Cleveland because Dallas is taking on a risk in Drumond's expiring and John Collins expiring. The Mavs are also adding salary.

Atlanta saying, "where can we sign" Smile Why would they trade a 22 year almost star for 2 bad non expiring contracts and Josh Green? Even Gallo is arguably better than any of the players going their way.

Kevin Love is a stretch 4 and they need another veteran. They also need defense as scoring is not an issue for them. I think everyone wins in that trade scenario honestly.
Gallo has not been good this year but they are essentially trading Gallo for Prince, Love, and Green. Collins was not going to resign with them.

Guys, no team “needs” Kevin Love.

Hopefully, the Mavs can find a new home for KP before he reaches a similar status.

Gallo might not have been good, but at least he is playing. Love is yet to make the field and his contract is worse than Gallo. They already had Prince and traded him. They wouldn't do Gallo-Love straight up let alone add Collins to the story.

Fortunately for Atlanta, it is not really his decision. And even if they wouldn't want to resign him, I am sure they can get better offers... I have actually a hard time seeing if they could do worse. No way this trade is a win for them

Random idea combining a few rumors:

Dallas gets Drummond and Wiseman (Schwartz special)
Golden State gets KP and Iwundu (Death lineup 2.0)
Cleveland gets Wiggins (full circle)

Who says no?

BTW, my working assumption is that with 3 huge expirings Dallas would follow that up with a call to Atlanta to see if they want to trade us Collins now or match our max offer this summer. I'm thinking a young frontcourt of Collins/Wiseman would look pretty nice next to Luka for a while.
