FUCK. The West is so hard. LAL/LAC/POR/UTA/DAL/DEN/POR/HOU/GSW/PHO are in it to win it. MIN/SAC/SAS/NOP will fight for the 10th seed. OKC only one tanking.

GSW will not be a contender next year, unless Wiseman is the second coming of Shaq. They will give a fight for 8th place. 

As it stands now, Denver and Clippers get worse, OKC fell from a cliff, Houston & Pelicans are most likely worse too. 
Phoenix and Portland improved, but not really drastically IMO.

I don't know how much 2021 cap space is important to them, but Sato and Young would fit on our team very nicely. There is still Buddy. Brooklyn built a huge tax bill with Harris alone and they also reportedly signed Ibaka. If we like Prince he might be available. New Orleans still has 5 point guards on the team. San Antonio?

This is my problem with the Mavs approach to free agency ... just like last offseason ... there's never any pretermined gameplan.   It's just completely reactionary and scrambling.    We'lll look out on the scrapheap of what's left while everyone else got their guy.  Find this year's version of Delon Wright.  Tell ourselves that we're the smart team that found the undervalued gem in the rough while everyone else overpaid.   Then hope someone takes him off our hands next offseason because it turns out he's not an NBA rotation player on a contender.

But the value contract we signed with Seth last year turned into JR and the 36 this year.  If you keep signing value contract you can turn them into better assets later.

I feel like these negative takes require some weird upward revisionism of how bad last offseason was. We legitimately expected the Mavs to pick up a third star last year, and they couldn't even sign a third starter. They've already beaten last year handily even without a max money slot.
