Hayward is unhappy in his role was my understanding......

Correct. Celtics have tons of guards and wings. Hayward is the odd man out. Doesn't mean he's not a good player. He would be excellent as the 3rd guy in the Mavs starting lineup.

What about VanVleet + another $20M FA next year? I think bringing him is much more enticing if max space in 2021 is no longer a priority.

I'm not sure how we'd acquire VanVleet this year?

I think the 4 for 80 deal that's been thrown around for several different guys would make sense. Do you extend him and then do a 3 for 60?

I'd do that. to me a good starter at 20 mill is completely fair pricing.

I'm not excited to speculate and have egg on my face later, but I bet he's got a LEGIT offer from Atlanta, NY...some dumpster team with cap room where he doesn't want to play.

I think 4/80 might be towards the BOTTOM of what's possible, not the top. And THAT's why people are going to freak out if this happens. He might end up with 4/100!!

That is the bidding war, and I don't think it has dick to do with Boston. Just my read on things.
This is getting at what’s really happening. He has offers from bad teams he doesn’t want to play for. He could decline his option and get 4/100 from Atlanta or he could go to his first choice(Dallas) in trade and make 1/34 with a 3/54 extension

He holds all the cards if he told Boston he will only opt in if he’s traded to Dallas. He could always opt out and take the money on a bad team while leaving Boston with nothing

I firmly believe ATL has been the fall back option for Hayward this whole time and his leverage.

Not exactly.  This more like finding out your girlfriend is going to dump you and then sending her a preemptive strike via text.  They can't afford to extend him and like others have said, he's the odd man out.

That is over 100 million on 4 players. Langfor and Williams brothers add another 10 million. And so on.

There is also this.

A sign and trade for THJ is the only realistic way that I can see. It wouldn't be the worst move for Toronto if he's going to walk to a team like Atlanta or New York anyway.

Then again, Toronto might be willing to pay as much as it takes to keep him if they think Giannis is opting in.

Only the "bad" teams in ATL/Knicks are rumored to be interested so far. Where Hayward doesn't want to end up with (leverage). I think Keith Smith is the mouthpiece of Aigne, if i remember right.

And the Mavs MAYBE, Donnie better not cave in to anything  ...

We better not give up any major assets at all. THJ / Wright / #31. I guess they want #18 if they are interested in Green in the draft. Anything else on top is suicide.

If Green goes 11-17, good! It pushes a better player down to the Mavs.

Mavs can't include this year's picks. This would be a Thursday deal.

I'm completely fine with drafting 18,31 and signing someone with the MLE. I'm not making deals to just make deals.

Oh, I am, too, if the alternative is to make a deal I don't like. I realize that you're saying Hayward IS a deal you don't like. For me, it could potentially be an off the wall double or even a sliding triple, depending on the details.

He suffered a horrible foot & ankle injury and needed 12 months to return to a reasonable level.

Now he suffered another ankle injury, came back played five games, averaged 11/4/3, while shooting 40% from the field and 29% from the 3pt line.

And NOW he wants a new big contract. I wonder why?

This is such an obvious play from Hayward´s side. He wants his last big contract, worried that he turns into hot garbage the next time he steps onto a court, thereby ruining all his 2021 FA prospects.

Ainge aside how can people not see through his play. He desperately wants to get paid now, that´s why his agent was pumping out all these articles for months about how awesome and available he is.

This has Parsons 2.0 written all over it. So many red flags.

Why doesn´t Ainge simply extend Hayward or why doesn´t Hayward wait to sign an extension next summer?

He´s a starter on a title contender after all.

Why does Danny Ainge, one of the league´s leading GMs, decide that he does not want to hand such an extension to Gordon Hayward.

What are his concerns? Cause they should be ours.

Maybe he does not like the timeline with Tatum/Brown. Why do we with equally young Luka/Porzingis?

Maybe he believes Gordon Hayward on his downward age/health trajectory is an awful long-term investment next to two young studs.

Letting Hayward walk for nothing has no immediate impact on their capspace, to sign a different player. So why would Ainge not extend Hayward (as a trade asset)?

Maybe he thinks the contract Hayward wants will immediately be a liability and not an asset.

Those are all questions Ainge has played out in his head and HE DOES NOT WANT TO PAY Hayward.

This is almost the same scenario as DAJ and Jerry West. Luckily in that case, we only gave DAJ a one year deal. Imagine if we gave him four years like Hayward (likely) wants now.  Undecided
You missed it. Reports are that Hayward isn’t happy and might have had stuff stolen? In the locker room. Danny isn’t a slave master, it’s a free country and Hayward wants out

I can't imagine the he and Toronto will not get a deal done. Or are there any grumblings?

Ye not sure why the Mavs would even want to extend him early? He is the ideal rental candidate. Play out the season and show what you got.

If not, good luck on the Knicks or ATL.

He did an interview where he said his priority was to get paid. The rumor was that Toronto didn't want to go above $20M a year, so that could open the door for someone to lure him away. But I think he's content with staying put if the money is equal.

I think he hurt his ankle in the playoffs and wasn't out that long. From what I heard he had a good playoffs when he was out there. I don't see anything that points to big injury flags like Parsons.
