DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

So, if the deal was exactly as above, only DFS in place of Jackson, would you do it?

Isn't that enough? That's five teams driving the price up. Not to mention they all arguably have more picks than Dallas. Weren't you the one claiming that you can see a scenario where there won't be a bidding war for Jrue?

Those five teams usually fight for same couple of top guys, because it is also an arms war. "It is better for me to overpay a pick than my competitior gets him". As you can see on the example of LAL and LAC.

I think there is a small chance that he really blossoms here with Luka and RC. He continues a more efficient shooter and in our system turns into a 20 ppg scorer.

20ppg and near 40% shooting... Sounds like a good trade asset at worse.

He doesn't play defense. But he's not far off from being a legit 3rd scorer that could be had for likely pretty cheap.

Yeah, if the point is snag him and extend him, I can see him being their guy, if they like him. He's young and they can afford him, trade wise.

You’re looking at the Harden loser, Denver, GS, Boston and Miami(plus maybe Utah/Toronto) as the only competition with the Mavs for guys. There will be better opportunities

Miami has picks owed as do we. But they have future cap space. Mavs likely do. So they are probably about in the same boat as Miami.

I was no way implying Mavs were at an advantage.

I think Harden goes to one of those teams and Beal eventually goes to another. Who is the other star on the market in the next few years? No idea who.

If we get a wink wink deal for a SNT of Gallo too. ha

Sorry, but I don't think OKC is selling at this price. I think it would have happened already, if they are

I know it's early but I am disappointed so far. Can't believe the Bucks got what they got. Lakers get Schroder for cheap. RoCo got traded.

At a minimum Mavs should be able to undo their mistakes with Wright and Jackson pretty easily, upgrading them into "somebody." In a vacuum converting those guys into Danny Green for just 31 isn't bad. I am really thinking Mavs need multiple impact players.

Maybe Dipo is available for cheaper than we thought? What if they would just do THJ straight up bc they know Dipo doesn't want to be there and they want a more positive guy in the locker room. If Dipo isn't moved on draft night maybe that's something to watch out for Thurs or Friday.

If we got Dipo and Oubre or something I think that would be pretty good all things considered. Bulls are dumb so I don't know that it's impossible that Mavs could land LaVine somehow. Stay tuned y'all. I am leaning towards pessimism that we will wind up with a very modest meh/okay offseason (despite 2 nice picks) but I will try to be optimistic that Mavs can score something good.

How can you say that? So far everything Karnisovas did was very smart...

Not familiar with Karnisovas just saying over the last several years they've made mostly dumb moves as a franchise.

Scott, I know this isn't the point of your post, and I'm hijacking a little, but this is something I'm really fascinated by this morning:

I think it's important that we all understand what Windhorst MEANT by "Oladipo has no value...contract related."

1) IND is obviously not going to move him for a package like what's above.

2) No team is paying more than that for a RENTAL.

3) Because of 1 and 2, any trade for a player like Oladipo, in his contractual situation, would basically require an agreement between Oladipo and his new team that a contract extension be in place in order to make the trade. It's the only way both teams can get what they want in the deal.

4) While there are teams who value what COULD BE with Oladipo (maybe including the Mavs), it's the guaranteed money on that potential contract, and not the trade cost, that's preventing a market from forming. That's what all the notes about "teams want to see Oladipo play for a while before trading for him" have meant. It all makes total sense to me now.

So, and this is crucial to understand, IF that market materializes NOW (from the Mavs or any other team), given the events of the past 24 hours, I think it's safe to assume that it's at least a little bit of a panic move.

This got buried, and I think it's important, so I'm bumping it.

Why wouldn't a Dipo for Wright/Jax/31 be a good trade for the Mavs?

Great trade

I'm not sure the Mavs are buying at that price either.

Giannis for #31 would be great for Mavs too. It will also not happen

It would be. Indiana wouldn't do it. That's the point.

The value for the player in trade (without both sides wanting an extension) doesn't meet the requirements for IND to move him. Teams checked in about a rental on the cheap and were refused. IND wants a package that reflects what a team would offer if they were trading for a very good player and extending him as a long term piece (like how the Mavs handled Porzingis). Teams don't WANT Oladipo under THOSE circumstances, hence there'e no trade market.

EDIT: this is coming from Windhorst and others. Windhorst couched it as "not my opinion." It's literally what people are telling him.
