Lavine reminds me of JET, though not necessarily in terms of playing style. JET was also the best player on a bad team. He came to Dallas with some bad habits, not conducive to winning. But he was a hard worker. Coachable. Talented. Tough.
Lavine strikes me as very similar. He's super talented and will clean up his game in the right situation.
Yeah, I see where you're going with that. It could work out just the same way, only with an even bigger payoff down the road.
Can we all agree that a higher basketball IQ version of LaVine who focused on defense and played more within himself on offense would be an insanely positive thing to have in the NBA?

Dang. That makes too much sense. You ruined my afternoon of speculation.
I do not want to believe this. Instead I believe in this:
Luka
Lavine
S. Bey / DFS
Millsap / Kleber
KP / WCS / Bobi
As I do think S. Bey will be able to be better than OPJ, I do not see reason to trade so much for him. Get Millsap and Lavine, draft S. Bey and there you go, a team that will be very hard to win against.

Without checking the math, I think you're starting to zero in on what the cost might be. Replace Sato with Young, and I think Chicago is into it. WOULD WE STILL BE?
I say YES, but I have a feeling some of y'all would revolt.
EDIT: I just noticed the 2025 1st in there. I'm not sure I could stomach that, though you might be right about it not being a choice.

I bought three.

So the LaVine idea is interesting, but can the Bulls not get something better than a package of good role players and non-lotto picks? Wouldn't they want some package that includes at least 1 premium pick or a high upside young player to replace LaVine? Not sure who the latter would be but I imagine there are some teams out there with a lotto pick that wouldn't mind cashing it in for LaVine?

I say YES, but I have a feeling some of y'all would revolt. The math works with either Sato or Young. I myself would prefer Sato being another distributor/ball handler that RC I think would love.

Hey, those jerseys might be worth more if he doesn't sign here, so I think you're covered either way.

Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

Right, for sure. I'm saying that I'd assume CHICAGO would prefer to move Young.
Incidentally, I just talked to a buddy of mine who lives in Chicago. Apparently, everyone there thinks they're about to trade him for either Westbrook or Harden. He says that's all anyone is talking about. Just to give you an idea of what THEY think the guy is worth.
We can hope, but the more I think about it, the less confident I am that a LaVine deal is possible for our boys in blue (green?).

We're also giving JB (won't say JJ, cause...you know).

I cannot imagine Lavine to be any worse than THJ. And what Lavine lacks in the defensive department, he blows out the water on offense. He's 10x the offensive player THJ is, with the same ability to get absolutely scorching hot.
I don't think you'd blow your wad because you would be sending out salary in the deal to offset money coming in. Any type of LaVine trade would need to be powder-friendly.
There is little reason to think that they would want THJ so you'd have to include Wright or Powell in the deal to make the money work. Of course you could be sending out THJ to a 3rd team for another asset to make Chicago want to do the deal. That may be how a deal gets done for anyone.
Call me crazy but if I was a contending team... I'd pay a 1st this year for THJ in a heartbeat.

If you were a contending team that desperately needed shooting and didn't have any way to develop a rookie? Absolutely, you would.

Also I am still thoroughly confused by this opt-in business. If THJ isn't opting in before the draft then there will be no THJ + picks for anybody. I thought the latest was that the opt-in would occur before the draft but it seems like ppl on here are disputing that.

I don't even think the Mavs know, tbh. I think there's a lot of confusion about things like that right now.

I think most people are going with the newest info, which also makes sense since that is how it has been done in the past anyway.

The thing lost in all this LaVine buzz here is that I don't know that the Mavs have anything the Bulls want.
Oladipo on the other hand I think is gettable, particularly if THJ is able to be packaged with 18.

I just think if such a deal actually happened, the real-life terms would be so, so much less favorable for the Mavs than what you guys are envisioning. Assume EVERYTHING of value goes out the door, and something very undesirable might follow LaVine through it coming back.
This is Chicago's BEST PLAYER. This would be a BLOCKBUSTER. I think the dumbass Knicks have spoiled us with that KP deal, but it's not happening twice in two years.
Chicago's best player on a team that is really really bad with him. He's a bad defender who has an injury history. He has a rep as an empty stats guy. The huge + for him is a very reasonable contract.
I think the negatives I listed are things we can work with or won't be a problem here. But 2 totally different players.
Frankly I think the Bulls should move on from Lavine and go full young team and let Donovan coach them up. Lavine isn't the guy you are going to build around ever. And until you get that guy, keep churning young guys thru. Now they very well most likely get a better offer than anything Mavs offer. But regardless if Mavs are in on him... I think it's a pretty good argument that Lavine should be traded from the Bulls end.
