DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

As @"DanSchwartzman" mentioned. Rubio to the Clippers makes a lot of sense. They desperately need a floor general to run the offense. Rubio is one of the best in the league and they have enough scoring to compensate for his lack of shooting/inside scoring.

There is never enough shooting in the modern NBA so Shamet is a player that every single team would like to have. He is probably one of the few remaining assets that the Clippers might be willing to give up.

Let's take 10 out of the conversation for a moment.  For Rubio to end up in LAC, they have to send out a significant contract.  Maybe we are giving up 18 to do Wright for Beverley and swapping DFS for Shamet.  10 logically goes to OKC.

So:

Paul to Suns
D. Wright/Oubre/DFS to OKC
Rubio to LAC
Beverley/Shamet to Dallas

Not sure who deserves 18 in this deal...probably OKC gets it or we are giving up 18 to get 25 (or the Phoenix/OKC part is a 10 for 18 swap).  Two other thing of note here, this is cap neutral (very close) as it relates to 2021 room.  Second, OKC has TPE's to absorb Wright and DFS.  I wonder if there is a construct that gets some or all of the TPE to Dallas.

Beverly = Duffy
Shamet = Happy Walters (Excel)

Not really sure if the Mavs need to add value in this case. I think Beverleys contract is just as bad as Wrights. He provides more on court value but he is older and injury-prone. DFS and Shamet probably have similar value. Two bargain contracts. Two solid role players. One 3&D wing. One 3-point specialist.
If the mentioned players are included I cannot imagine that the Mavs are willing to move down in the draft.

A poster I respect on another site has Phoenix getting Shamet and Beverley for Rubio.  Dallas gives up Wright/DFS and 18 for Oubre Rental and 10.  That would be Plan HIBW's as it would get you to Giannis money while renting a useful but overpaid Oubre and moving up in the draft.

I mentioned that, actually. Dan said he doubted it because of salary matching.

Rubio CAN guard the best GUARD the whole game. Not wing, but guard. And, we have heard that Carlisle and the Mavs are fans of his game in the past.

Not saying I'd do it, but I'm just trying to put the pieces together.

I don't believe it, but IF THIS IS TRUE, it's a home run.

Many of the guys we like will be there at 10. Hayes, Vassell, etc. I'd do it, for sure.

@"DanSchwartzman" in your scenario, where would Wright/DFS end up?

Is there any substance to the Mavs involvement or are you all just making this up as you go along with the Suns/OKC rumour?

Honest question. Huh

Interesting. If Dallas wants to add youth and athleticism at wing, trading Wright/DFS/18 for Oubre/Vassell would be a big step in the right direction.

I'm going to say it one more time, and then I'm going to shift into absolute fanboy mode, hoping for #10...I would start analyzing this deal for potential ways for OKC to end up with ALL picks that change hands. That's what they're going to want for blowing it up. None of the other names mentioned would excite them at all, except for Shamet, maybe. Yes, obviously, there will have to be some salary coming back to them, but the PICKS are what would motivate them to pull the trigger.

Obviously, some details might be missing, but I have a tough time seeing Dallas getting the SECOND BEST ASSET involved in this deal (#10) by giving up DFS and another pick. If they pull that off, I'll name my first born Donnie (middle name Nelson) but I just can't see it.

Ok, said my piece again. I will now start to pray and make voodoo sacrifices in order to get this deal over the finish line. You're all welcome in advance.

Woah

If the Mavs are giving up our only wing defender then they have to be getting one in return right?

So this whole Mavs involvement is based on a Knicks fanpage (?) nobody has ever heard of before yesterday?

Thank God the whole off-season will only be 10 more days.

At first blush, using the names we started with, it is challenging to get Rubio to LAC.  But then my thinking evolved to include Beverley.

Wright and DFS end up in OKC.  If you think about it, they reportedly like Poku-man.  They would get 10 in the deal with Rubio and Oubre.  Then they trade off Oubre/10 to Dallas and get Wright/Poku/DFS.  That seems reasonable to me and makes great sense from the standpoint of 2021.  OKC then sells off Rubio to LAC for Shamet and enough salary to make this legal.  Maybe that is Beverley.  Maybe it is some smaller pieces.

Would make much more sense than anything involving DFS.
Would want #25 as it wouldn't be of to much value for OKC.
Or just give #31 insted of #18
