For sure. In a world where even waiting doesn't guarantee fans in the stands, the next step is to reclaim the time of year where your tv partners are set up to run the programming unopposed.

Spencer is incorrect, I think. Twitter is not always a good thing. 

But, ALL parties are hurting relative to projections, so I'm not at all shocked that they're pushing the season up, and I don't anticipate that may players (in the know) will complain about it much.

Was it him, who tried to get "fans" paying him a max to circumvent the cap?

You know that's not Dallas cause they're late to that party all the time. Also, even if it was, the player would reneg in the last minute.

Tipping off the 2020/21 season before Christmas would allow the NBA to air games on December 25, which is one of the most important days of the year for the league’s TV partners. It would also allow the league to hold its playoffs in the spring, with the Finals taking place at the very start of summer, instead of in the late-summer and fall like this year. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported over the weekend that the NBA believes its new plan could mean salvaging $500MM in potential revenue.

115 next year would make it quite easy for the Mavs to create a max slot. If they sign their 18 and 31 picks and shed Wright's salary, they will only need to clear 2.5M more.

If so, that's great news. I wonder what it would look like with a minimum cap hold instead of the #18 salary.

Not a problem! I pretty much have the numbers memorized at this point.

Those totals are actually with Powell still on the roster at 11.1. I only mention the stretch waive as a last resort to create the remaining cap space. It would turn the 32M in space into 37.8M.  Unless he completely bombs this year, I agree he's pretty unlikely to be waived.
