I assume pushing the season up means the paychecks start flowing again. Money talks.

For sure. In a world where even waiting doesn't guarantee fans in the stands, the next step is to reclaim the time of year where your tv partners are set up to run the programming unopposed.

But, ALL parties are hurting relative to projections, so I'm not at all shocked that they're pushing the season up, and I don't anticipate that may players (in the know) will complain about it much.
Was it him, who tried to get "fans" paying him a max to circumvent the cap?

Quote:“It’s interesting Silver talked behind the scenes about waiting until a March time-frame if it meant getting a vaccine,” one NBA insider told Berman. “That’s until the finance committee showed him the numbers.”

Tipping off the 2020/21 season before Christmas would allow the NBA to air games on December 25, which is one of the most important days of the year for the league’s TV partners. It would also allow the league to hold its playoffs in the spring, with the Finals taking place at the very start of summer, instead of in the late-summer and fall like this year. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported over the weekend that the NBA believes its new plan could mean salvaging $500MM in potential revenue.
“The priority is getting back to the October-to-June format for 2021/22,” a source told Berman. “They found out the hard way not enough people watch TV in the summer. The virus and real-life struggles obscure the reality that sports on TV in the summer don’t generate enough viewers.”
Quote:- People around the league don’t expect push-back from the players’ union to derail the NBA’s proposed schedule, Windhorst stated on his Hoop Collective podcast. “They’re probably going to have to agree to this,” Windhorst said (per RealGM). “In talking to people on the league side this past week, they didn’t act like getting the players to agree was going to be that big of a stumbling block. I’m sure some people are going to be upset, but I’m not sure what they can do about it.”
Quote:- Assuming the plan gets the go-ahead, the free agent period and offseason will be accelerated in a major way, which isn’t great news for teams expecting to have major roster turnover this fall, as Berman writes. “This is going to favor teams with stable rosters,” one source told The New York Post.
Quote:- Teams are hoping to get clarity soon about where the salary cap will land for 2020/21, as well as an updated projection for ’21/22. Appearing on today’s episode of The Lowe Post podcast with Zach Lowe, ESPN’s Bobby Marks said that for the time being, most teams are using a $115MM cap estimate for ’21/22.

Lowe and Bobby Marks said cap 111 this year and 115 the next, is a guess based on what he (Marks) is hearing.

115 next year would make it quite easy for the Mavs to create a max slot. If they sign their 18 and 31 picks and shed Wright's salary, they will only need to clear 2.5M more.

Man, are you sure? Like, this is with cap holds for all roster spots factored in?
If so, that's great news. I wonder what it would look like with a minimum cap hold instead of the #18 salary.

My guess is Silver and the gang are members of this forum and they got bored when we covered every possible trade for the second time. As we did. Looking forward to it

Should be right...unless I forgot how to math. This is of course with THJ's rights renounced.
KP 31.7
Powell 11.1 (can become 4.4 w/ stretch waive and add 1 min cap hold at 0.9)
Maxi 8.8
Curry 8.2
Luka 10.2
DFS 4
#18 3
Brunson 1.8
#31 1.5
Min x3 2.7
Total 83
Cap 115
Space 32
Max 34.5
Space w/o #18: 34.1

Gotcha. The Powell stretch waive was what I was missing. I don't think that's likely, but it's nice to know how close that would get them.
Thanks for taking the time to show this!

Not a problem! I pretty much have the numbers memorized at this point.
Those totals are actually with Powell still on the roster at 11.1. I only mention the stretch waive as a last resort to create the remaining cap space. It would turn the 32M in space into 37.8M. Unless he completely bombs this year, I agree he's pretty unlikely to be waived.

Do we need 3 capholds here? Doesn't one min caphold disapere, because you are signing a player?
€dit Oh there are only 9 players in your list. Sry.
