Safe rather than sorry. Good approach by the NBA here.
Data and numbers are not as reliable right now as it will be in the weeks, months to come.
All the details of the disease and the stats will become more well known especially with getting it under more microscopes outside of China.

Every expert on the matter going to tell you the same. Imo USA already reacted a bit too late. Hopefully you don't have a Italy situation on your hand very soon. The amount of tests being done in the USA is a little bit scary tbh.
Northern Italy has top notch health care (better than the USA). This should have been the ultimate warning for the rest of the world to try to slow it down as much as possible.
Otherwise every hospital gonna run on 200 % capacity and "normal surgeries" are nowhere to be found. Strokes not treated etc. pp
This is what's currently happening in Italy - they can only save a limited amount of people so they choose the younger and healthier ones who have a better chance of surviving. Instead of a death rate of < 1 % it can quickly rise to 3-5 %, if the health system is crumbling. Italy isn't exactly a 3rd world country.

I luv ya ThunderMav, but he's full of shit and has no idea what he is talking about. This is anecdotal evidence at it's worst.
About 1 in 5 people who get this need to be hospitalized. Imagine how badly that is going to stretch the medical system here. Look up some of what's happening in Italy right now and you'll have a better idea of why there is this level of concern

Whew. Can't get too comfortable but it's good to know that Dallas didn't play any of those teams in the past 10 days.

Italy currently has 10000-ish confirmed cases and 600+ fatalities. That's 6%, which is a hell of a lot higher than seasonal flu. USA is TBD. We'll see what the next few weeks bring.
There is no current vaccine, so pretty much everyone can get it, even if they don't show symptoms worth going to the doctor for. But if you get it, you can spread it, possibly to someone who IS susceptible, like your parents or grandparents. Reports are that serious infection turns into "bilateral interstitial pneumonia", which is sometimes fatal and even recovery is not always 100% back to where you started. With no vaccine, the only way to prevent transmission is distance.
I, for one, applaud that the NBA management has the cojones to halt the season until they get a clearer picture of what is happening and how to manage it. I fear it's too late to prevent some transmission, but for now the teams can retire to a neutral corner and take care of themselves and their fans. I am personally disappointed to hit "pause" when the final action is just heating up.

This virus is going to plunge us straight into a recession. People can't work, restaurants are seeing fewer customers, companies are laying off employees, stock market is down 25% in 2 weeks. Bad time for this to happen in a election year.

Serious question. How old are you?
If you're in your 30s, 40s, hey maybe you'll survive this no problem.
But if you still have your parents or grandparents around, I think you should take this a bit more seriously because they're most at risk from this virus. Does that not worry you?

If you're looking for a seriously or of touch silver lining, this helps a team that's been dealing with serious injuries. You're looking at possibly finishing the season whenever they start back up, with a semi healthy roster.

I serially doubt it goes that far...for what amounts to be a bad cold for 99% of people.

well... there's a reason.
But I think they would have gotten there pretty quickly with a player revolt.
The question is, how do you come back from this if you're the league? It's going to be extremely tricky, because COVID-19 is going to become widespread.

Gobert should be suspended without pay when play resumes IMO...he ruined so many lower wage employees ability to feed and support their families because he wanted to be an idiot and act like a fool...

It's not like he caught it on purpose. He's like a lot of healthy young people who think they are bullet proof and are out to show that they aren't afraid of whatever life throws at them. That attitude is rewarded 99.9% of the time, however in this case it's not about you, but is all about protecting everyone around you.
Fun Fact:
A lot of epidemiologists are originally veterinarians since vets are trained in herd medicine and protection and the principles translate well.

When the season starts back up: 30 team playoff based on current standings. Change my mind.

Interesting. I think I like it. Do we need a three game end of the regular season to get team's back in rythm? Also, 2 teams would have to have a first round bye in order to make the math work. Is the first round a 3 game series?
