TRADE: Dallas receives Zaccharie Risacher in 3-team deal

A great sign.  He knew his payday for next year was secure and still played like a guy fighting for his NBA life.

If anything, he elevated his play.

Also harped on ZR being a good shooter again.

Also listened to the pregame presser. May says the coaches call Risacher a cyborg. He never gets tired. He plays that hard and doesn't even breathe hard.

And yes, May also said "...he's a good shooter. He's a very good shooter ..."

Yep.  And while I think May has a positive approach, I don't view him as a sunshine pumper.  He specifically mentioned that the outside shots that fell for him tonight came at the end of the clock where he couldn't overthink the attempts and that they just need to get him in that mindset all the time.

I was wrong about him in the Fallen Angels thread I started. I also felt his option was too much. I was wrong there as well but always happy to be wrong in these cases where a Mavs player proves me wrong in a good way.

There is value in just a tall lean athletic guy playing hard on both ends. Hoping his 3 pt shot starts normalizing to his career average. If being a solid 3 and D guy is his ceiling, that is perfectly fine.

I originally thought it was too much--and it still makes me squeak a bit--but I think it's worth a shot at this point.  He's already shown me he belongs on the court.  Now we can see what else he's got.

I didn't know much about him and while he has a ways to go before he earns the 3 part of 3 and D, I think that kind of sells his skillset short.  Maybe I'm just used to that type of archetype of the Mavs of someone who can only catch and shoot, but ZR has shown flashes of creation and some midrange around the rim work.  Those are a work in progress too.  He's also averaging 6 boards a game which is really solid.  Feels more like a Swiss French Army Knife?

I fully expected ZR to be a roller coaster on offense and at times be ugly as the season started.  I thought he would do his best using his speed on fast breaks and breakouts.

I did not expect that his defense would be this great early on...rebounds, steals, blocks, 1 on 1 defense.  I thought he would be slightly above average early on.   He has been close to elite so far.

I think his defensive ceiling is elite and his offensive ceiling is higher than his age 19 rookie year.  If he gets anywhere near his ceiling he will be a high level starter for many years.

Agreed.  His defense has been so much better than I expected.  Its difference making.  The only other player on the roster like that is Lively.  I can't believe Atlanta gave up on this.

Someone needs to volunteer to monitor the griping of Atlanta fans that they gave up so little for this guy. I have yet to hear any commentary on this here so far. It’s got to be starting if they’re paying any attention.

ZR had Hawks fan split.  It was deeply debated there.  Some thought he can’t play while others either blamed the coach or thought he needed more time.  It was a pretty interesting conversations hearing both sides as they both were dug in.

From what I see now, I think both sides are still dug into their trenches and have not really changed their opinion yet.

I was high on this trade when it happened.

After the opening game, I was ready to get rid of him.

Now I am happy again.

I am a little surprised they picked up his option.

Cooper Flagg on Zac Risacher:

“I think we are 15 to 20 points better with him just doing the little things,” Flagg said. “The shots will fall. All that, I don’t even care about it. When he just goes out there and competes at the highest level how he can, he makes us so much better with his versatility all over the court. He’s been huge for us.” Christian Clark, The Athletic

This is a big guard, forward heavy league. Coop must have had many depressed nights last year knowing he had to anchor both the offense and defense.

Having Risacher has freed him up so much. Plus Rez is ramping up.
Can’t even imagine if Lively ever gets back to somewhere close to his former level.
