AROUND the NBA:
APHoops: OKC Thunder guard Alex Caruso is expected to miss some time after spraining his ankle last night against the Phoenix Suns, per @ShamsCharania. “There’s going to be some level of time he is likely to be missing as well.”

Shams Charania: The Charlotte Hornets on Feb. 11 are retiring the No. 1 jersey of Muggsy Bogues, the shortest player in NBA history at 5-foot-3. Bogues spent 10 of his 14 NBA seasons in Charlotte (1988-1998) and is the franchise leader in assists, steals and minutes.

This.

It feels like this is quantitatively the most injuries in a such a short period in recent history, if not ever. I for sure can't remember such a start into a season in the last two decades...

If this keeps up Mo Bamba has a shot at 3rd Team NBA!

Barring something awful, I'm finding it hard to see how the Mavs don't, at least, back into a play-in game. I mean, five teams aren't going to make it:

Sacramento clearly won't.
NOpe just reeks of a losing culture.
Phoenix looks ripe for regression.
GS looks old and has too much riding on a 39 yo.
Then it's up to: Dallas, Utah, LAC, Memphis and (insert an injury led team TBD) fighting for two spots.

What a difference "One Week In The NBA" makes.

Slowly then all at once people will come to realize the truth.

Mikel Brown on the Nets. Huge shots in the 4th. Great range.

Again wemby stat padding against a bad team.lmao looks mitch is letting wemby to pad his stats against a bad team the goes back to egalitarian offense when they play a good team.

Wemby 21 shot attempts in just 27 minutes.

Rookie mistake as well at the end. Tatum with the buzzer beater. Great game

NBA Stat: Jayson Tatum just hit another game-winner. Since 1996-97, no other player has a higher FG% on shots to tie or take the lead in the final 24 seconds of a game. I checked in on part of the Portland game last night to watch Scoot Henderson.  I think they broke him.

He looks lost on offense with no real role.  Portland looks better than many suspected and they certainly have enough dribble-pass-shoot guys on the roster without him.  They could really used another high level bench wing and I thought a somebody for Scoot deal might be worth considering - since we are into reclamation projects.  But, I'm not sure he's good at basketball.

Super happy that the Mavs didn't end up with Acuff. 93 FGA in his first four games. A new rookie record in the post merger era. Next level chucking. Absolutely no interest in any kind of team basketball. Zero effort on defense.

The problem with analyzing anything to do with Sacramento is the classic "chicken vs. the egg" debate.

I suspect Acuff is at least partially to blame, as you say, but I also think it's almost impossible to start your career in Sacramento and avoid picking up super bad habits. Haliburton is the exception, but I can't think of a single other good example off the top of my head.

Kind of makes me want to watch a Kings game which isn't something I would have said in recent memory.

Maybe the most predictible outcome from the most recent draft - Acuff is a terrible defender who never met a shot he didn't like.  He and SAC are perfect for each other.

From ESPN via Hoops Hype...

After a meeting with Celebrini and Dunleavy in early October, the team (GSW) sent out a statement declaring he (Porzingis) would be around. It didn't last. Porzingis hasn't returned to the facility and the organization shifted his official status from out with "general illness" (as they'd listed during his absences last season) to "not with team," a purposeful change. This can no longer be described as an excused absence for the center. Porzingis' unwillingness to be present at the Warriors' facility could be deemed a failure to render his services -- a reality that has been raised internally, sources said -- and could be used in an attempt to void his entire contract. But that would present its own complications, unless Porzingis expressed an intention to retire and willingly gave all the money back.
