Better comparison is the Mavs Matrix, obviously not the Suns era where he was a 22ppg guy.
He needs to gain some muscles.

People always look for stars with comps, I think it's more a taller, longer Matisse Thybulle. Hopefully he can similarly develop his shooting and most importantly stay healthy.

Mathysse is almost unplayable without a Luka Doncic on the court so i hope Zach will be a way better player than him.

I think if Mattise was 6'10, meaning he could guard more positions, his defense would keep him on the court more than it does, similar to Zach with us. Zach would not be getting the same playing time if he was only 6'5. But I'd say Zach isn't really much better offensively. Maybe he can develop more, but im not anticipating him being much more on offense than a streaky spot up shooter in addition to transition plays and cuts. His bad free throw percentage tells me his likely never going to be consistent from 3 as there's a mechanics issue. He should be a better player than Thybulle but purely due to having 5 extra inches of height.

Risacher has to limit his shoots to fastbreak and Wide open 3s.
His size and athletism are way better than Thybulle.

Thybulle averaged 7.5 shots per 36. For most of his career his timidness on offense made him useless on that end of the court. Risacher takes 14 shots per 36. It feels like folks are giving up on Risacher offense based on 4 games. Its going to be better than what we have seen so far.

Willingness is a big plus. His shot looked great game 3. I started screaming "duck" every time he attempted from outside in games 1 and 4. Don't get it twisted, I like a lot of what he brings to the table, but at this point if I'm game planning against the Mavs, I'm daring him to hit from the outside.

I think some people are getting the timeline wrong. Risacher entered the league as a below average athlete (31 inch vert in the combine). He was a high volume 3-point shooter. With people hoping that he would eventually grow into his frame. Elite 3&D prospect in a weak draft class. Always a streaky shooter but in large sample sizes his percentages have always been solid.
What we are seeing right now is a completly different player. A borderline elite athlete that plays with relentless energy on both ends. Hard to believe that he completly forgot how to shoot but he wouldn't be the first player that has to adjust his shooting form after adding weight/muscle.

Why is coaching always so undervalued?
It’s like people think it’s a complete crap shoot which players develop and which ones don’t.

Probably true, though fans are always quick to say so and so role player is a poor mans version of an actual star player without much issue. But there seems to be way more issue with saying a role player might be a better version of another role player for whatever reason. Comps to Matrix or even a prime Simmons are IMO more off than a taller Thybulle. Yes he can be better than Thybulle, and has some areas he's going to be better.

Exactly!
Just look at Erick Spoelstra. He manages to win consistently, even with a bad roster!

Yeah like all my predictions that were ridiculed on this board aren’t coming true.
But go ahead with your expert analysis.

Maybe it’s the best thing that can happen to us in the middle to long run.
Let him not find his shot all season, as long as May trusts him - and himself - that he’ll be a fine and consistent shooter in a couple of years. Think Maxi Kleber at the 2/3 instead of 4/5 or DFS.
That allows us to give him a very reasonable multi year deal and keep a valuable piece that perfectly fits Coopers timeline.
