Pre-season game #2
#1
At least they're not getting blown out to start. Rockets shooting lights-out, Mavs still a little cold.

Cooper is struggling on shooting 1 of 7 so far and he needs to start picking better shots to shoot and take his time to get the shot that he wants. He is not playing well at all.

We are winning anyway because the team is playing great as a team and Cooper leads the team in assists w 4 at half we lead by 7 points 58 to 51.

Kyrie has 14 and that is the difference in this game. Still getting beat on rebounds 33 to 26. Both teams are shooting like crap.

Sengun, Durant and Van Fleet have not played so its fools gold.

Smart is the Rockets leading scorer w 13 as Smith Jr and Sheppard have 10 each so we need the defense to start playing them better in the 2nd half because there is no excuse for letting those guys score that much.

Getting more fouls is why we lead. This team does know how to draw fouls.

Lawal cannot stop guards that are bent on getting to the basket he can't seem to figure it out he needs to get in front of them

8 point lead midway through 4th with bench in there still so looks like the starters are done.

Cisse makes 3 of 4 from stripe so he must have worked on his FT's in the offseason.

14 point lead 123 to 109 w 2:43 Howard Lundy Tobi Tarik and Sergio in there. Looks like we might win this with a decent enough lead.

132 to 115 a 17 point win same as the Rockets had in the first game.

Would be nice if Lively and Santi could play some and we did it in a real game against the Rocket Starters.

They fouled Cooper all game limiting him to 30% shooting on 3 of 10. But he made 7 of 8 free throws. 14 points. Naji and Max also get 14.

Kyrie leads the team with 17 on 6-13 2 of 6 from 3.

Risacher makes 7 of 13 and 2 of 5 from 3 to finish 2nd with 16.

PJ gets 10

Sergio and Gafford get 9 each and Tarik scored 8

Sergio leads the team in rebounds with 7
Cooper leads the team in assists with 7

Is Rez hurt? Why no minutes?

Edit. NM. Saw he is dealing with an injury.

Dallas out-hustled Houston - which is saying something against Houston.

Max had a good game. Risacher got better as the game wore on and he quit being so frantic. Kyrie was rusty but looked like himself. Flagg didn't shoot particularly well, but had some nice defensive plays and generally played well. Biberovic looked pretty good defensively... so he can get minutes I think. Naji finally looked like himself in the second half.

The team shot FTs very well, and really contested Houston's shots everywhere on the floor. Houston was tough, and it was nice to see Dallas match them in intensity.

Too bad Sasser is not playing. They can't afford injured PGs really.

Mostly, I was just impressed by the level of effort by both teams in a preseason game. It’s a credit to the NBA and NBA players. As far as the game goes, Kyrie looks great, as good as ever, and that’s all that matters for today.

PS: The Texas Triangle road trip is going to be a killer for the rest of the league this year.

I don't know what to make of either of these games. I only caught the highlights, but in Game 1 we didn't play most of our core players and in Game 2 the Rockets didn't.  Does Tarik look clearly better than Seva? I know his strength is that he is a legit 3 pt shooter, but I really loved all the things that Seva showed in SL.

Kyrie looking quick and not playing hesitantly coming after such a major injury and layoff, to me is the biggest takeaway.

I think Max is the starter at this point... and I suspect PJ will also start. PJ was very active on both sides of the ball.

The big take-away for me is that this is a much faster pace than anything we've seen in years past. Sometimes it's a little erratic, but this a young group with good depth. The defense was very active unlike the last game. I think on most nights, we'll be a better shooting team too. Houston was tough, but we generally matched them.

As of right now, Risacher needs minutes to correct his speed. That's why I don't think he starts. He's too wound up and out-of-control. But in both games he settled down after a few minutes and played well. Larea will be a solid backup PG this year, but injuries to this group could be a problem.

Powell's role has changed. It's very interesting. He'll get minutes to help massage the offense and get people organized. I can see how that might work with him.

I don't see the Mavs losing games because of a lack of talent or depth. They may struggle to play coherently, but they don't look like a team that's going to lose for a lack of effort either. The PG position is tricky and we're going to have to hope for good health.

They are playing exactly the way Dusty May said they would. Analytics favor 3 pointers, layups and dunks.

They are going to pass more than they dribble. They are going to rotate all over the court. They are going to spread the floor and they are going to crash the offensive boards.

Its like the Golden State Dynasty. Spread you out and rip you to shreds.

Its going to TAKE TIME. This board will have several meltdowns and "I told you" sos.

But by the all-star break this team is going to be a pain in the a$$ to play.

Dusty is going to feed everyone a daily dose of confidence and the basketball is going to be fun to play. Once they get a taste of winning, they won't be able to get enough.

I only watched the end of the first and the 2nd half. DeLarea was impressive. He will contribute. Risacher looked much better. He might still help as a bench player. Kyrie was himself the little I saw. That’s several wins I hope. Lawal has some serious hops I didn’t know he had. Biberovic looked improved. He might help after all. I like that we have several young players even more after seeing half this game. I recorded the Rockets broadcast living in Houston nowadays so I saw enough to watch both games.

Pretty sure I saw Powell dribble between his legs. It was early, I may have been seeing things that weren't there.
