Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027

It is interesting.   There are pure asset plays but even with that there needs to be a roadmap for minutes.  While Dallas is not a very good team currently, they are a pretty deep team at certain positions.    Anyone they acquire it needs to be deeply discussed how that player fits and is there a developmental path.   ARe they willing to invest iin that player moving forward?  For Mathurin it would probably need to be near 30 minutes per game and around 20 million per season.   Is there a role for him at these #'s with the current roster?  Will there be one in the future?

I don't know what their thoughts are on Max.  If there is an interest in resigning him, that makes the cost Mathurin cost more difficult.    Minutes get eaten up pretty quick.

I think there's two questions right away. Will Kyrie start at PG or SG? And what player is playing behind Max Christie for rotation minutes? The SF position can be handled in several ways at present (although that could quickly change), so it doesn't seem like an issue now. Having Kyrie and Sergio on the floor at the same time seems like positive thing, but will the Mavs see Sergio as a starting PG on day one is the question.

But I agree with posts above saying Mathurin may simply too expensive in an environment that doesn't require starter minutes.

That said, I think lack of depth is going to kill LALs this season. It's Luka+Reaves+Kessler+PuPu Platter. That's not going very far.

Is an SnT for LBJ off the table since they renounced their rights?

You can't prejudge them as a team before the season starts. But if that's how you look at them as a team, it's your prerogative. They could surprise some people.

Yes. But they can squeeze a couple of firsts for Bronny from the team Daddy will choose Smile

I think their defense will not be good enough. Perhaps, if they can get a very good wing defender with the Vando trade. But I don't think Kuminga is it and I doubt they can pull off anything else.

It will be interesting what happens after this season. I think if they will be very far from OKC and SAS this season, Luka trade for record haul could be very much on the table. They will simply not have avenues to improve this current core. In this case I think the new owner should fire Pelinka and start from scratch. Only trading Luka could enable a swift rebuild.

I don't imagine Sergio will be starting day 1.  As of today, I don't think there is a viable option other than Kyrie starting at PG.

That's the most likely scenario. The PG and SG in this case:

Kyrie\Sergio\Sasser
Christie\??\??

I'm taking out Klay in this scenario. I would be tempted to see Kyrie and Sergio on the court at the same time if Klay is gone.

Man you guys are putting a lot of pressure on a rookie guard who was picked in the 20’s. I’m just hoping he can be a promising back up his first year.

Kyrie-Sergio would be a great with Flagg-PJ-Rez on the front court

Christie needs a break out season otherwise he can lose his spot.

Don't get me wrong. I'm fine if Sergio is the backup PG. I just think to start the season, they are going to give Sergio minutes to find out.

What I want to know is in 3 years how would all these PGs be redrafted. If Larry is top 3, then this draft was stellar and all the complaining and hand wringing would be for naught.

I think both Sergio and Sasser can play the 1 or the 2.  You can definitely play them together with Sergio size.  I think that is your 4 deep backcourt rotation.  After that its end of the bench guys.

That is one very white top trio, isn’t it?

Which was the last team with the three main cogs being white?

Dirk, Nash and Shawn Bradley wasn’t it, because Bradley was too bad…

You might have to go back to George Mikan days to find that.

Brian Windhorst: "Victor Wembanyama agreed to five years and 250 million. It is a great contract, but it does not have the escalator in it, what we call the Rose provision, which means if he had won the MVP award, won Defensive Player of the Year again, or made the All-NBA team in this upcoming season, he would have gotten the bump from 25% of the cap to 30% of the cap. That is going to be worth potentially 53 million dollars, somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-plus million dollars a year." Victor Wembanyama’s extension: "It does not create cap space, but it does create significant flexibility in this apron era where the second apron is so dreaded. And it is a partnership. You do not just give a discount out of the goodness of your heart. You give a discount, and the deal is: I will take 25%, and I will take less if you promise to maintain a championship-caliber supporting cast around me. That is the partnership. That is the promise from the Spurs."
