Max is probably in the "Some pay for past production. Others bet on future growth" category they mentioned? Still, just 23 and has improved every season.

I've never advocated for him getting a max extension. I've said that anything around or slightly above the MLE range feels like the sweet spot to me.

Thought I read Grimes was 10. The Sexton contract is more surprising. I think a Max extension should be under MLE as I don’t see him getting more than MLE on market.

@ShamsCharania
Free agent guard Quentin Grimes has agreed to a four-year, $60 million to join the Los Angeles Lakers, with a player option, sources tell ESPN.

I struggle with the thought of giving it to him early and hoping he continues improving. I think buyer's remorse would be a real possibility in that scenario. Not a given, but more possible than I'd be comfortable with.

And, I struggle with extending Marshall at all, at any price, with the way I perceive his fit with Flagg. I understand the Mavs front office and coach might feel differently, but I'd at least want to see it work on the court before giving him the deal. No argument whatsoever with him being a valuable player deserving of a raise. My issue with him is strictly based on my opinion of his fit here in Dallas.

I agree that there is some danger of buyer's remorse for Christie, but if we could get him for 4/$72m, or less...I think I'd pull the trigger.  As for Naji Marshall I think he can play with Flagg and provide good offense when Flagg is off the floor...yeah I would like to see him develop and outside shot.  4/$60m, or less, seems about right for Naji.  I would be more concerned with P.J. Washington's fit with Flagg...

How do you feel about Robinson’s $16m/yr. Contract compared with Gafford’s now?

I'd rather have the cheaper player, but they're comparable, and in comparable roles probably, minutes wise.

Gafford & PJ are good contract.

Mavs new front office may crash and burn.  We will see.  Although everything I hear I think we will be staying away from the empty stat guys or the non team guys.    Maybe I will be wrong.   I see us building this thing up with players that fit a lot of the character traits OKC has.    Just build a deep team with everyone rowing the same direction.    Easier said than done. Most teams say that, but harder to build when you see talent.

Would I want them to add a guard?  yes.   I am not sure I see someone who really says home run to me.  So we will see.

I would fine with a couple of singles at this point.

The Mavericks, I’m told, are expected to secure former Pelicans coach Willie Green as a top assistant for Dusty May’s first NBA coaching staff.

The Warriors hoped to bring him back for a second stint on Steve Kerr’s staff but May’s jump to the NBA gave Green two strong options.

Welp, after you posted this, they traded for Aldana and agreed to terms with Willie Green - both singles, at least.

Maybe when you wake up tomorrow you ask for an off the wall triple and we see what happens?

Is Aldana a single?  I'm struggling with spending assets and 17 mil on yet another big.

I think so, yeah. In fact, there’s a chance it might be a little more than a single if things work out. I really, really think they needed a shooting big, and they’re kind of hard to find. Smitty keeps saying that PJ Washington (better PLAYER) is a better shooter - I think that’s crazy.

I still don’t think this is the way the roster will look when the dust clears, so I’m not worried about the “another big” part…yet.

He is similar to PJ from 3.  A little more volume.  He is a small upgrade over PJ on offense and a downgrade on defense.  I realize he is 7 foot, but can he play center any more than PJ can?  I mean if he is basically a tall power forward I'm not sure what the fit is?  As somebody who thinks Flagg best position is power forward, sees Rez as the guy to swing between 4/5 and thinks this team is desperate for creation, I'm struggling with it.  It would have made a lot more sense to me if Mavs had drafted Burries instead of Morez.
