Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027

Probably due to either waiting for a new exception to officially reset and become available the new league year on the 6th (like the BAE) or this Sasser deal is tied to most likely the Duren SnT.

So the LALs have re-signed Reaves but have lost or potentially lost:

LBJ
Smart
Kennard
Hachimura (FA, TBD)
Hayes (FA, TBD)
Kleber (FA, TBD)

Oh, and Ayton picked up his PO, which is subtraction by addition to me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not crying about it, quite the opposite. But their cupboard is getting pretty bare for a team that promised to put a contender around Luka.

Free agent center Ariel Hukporti has agreed to a one-year, $3.4 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN. Hukporti departs the Knicks after playing a reserve role on their title team, and gives the 76ers frontcourt depth and a high-motor, athletic big man.

I know that's not ideal with our lack of guards, but gets us a cornerstone 5. Duren, Morez and Flagg would be an amazing front court. I don't know the numbers so I'm sure other pieces would need to be added to make it work, but Detroit seems to be in win now mode. They've previously been mentioned as interested in Kyrie. I was thinking Lively might make them pull the trigger since he's a game changer when healthy, but that's a big if.

Duren is not much better than Gafford or Lively, and will cost 2x as much.

Not sure why we'd be interested in that at all. Especially because we are giving up our ONE NBA level guard.

I'm going to strongly disagree on he's not much better, but we can agree to disagree. Lively is 100% hope and I don't count him anymore. He's shown no reason to believe he can stay healthy. Availability is everything.

I suspect he had a limited time to decide and neither Detroit nor Miami was ready to committ yet still working on other things.  It probably means Chicago has moved on from Simons?

Free agent center Nikola Vucevic has agreed on a one-year, $3.9 million deal to return to the Orlando Magic, sources tell ESPN. Vucevic -- who started his career in Orlando as a sophomore, spent nearly nine years with the Magic and has maintained a home there since -- turned down more lucrative offers elsewhere to reunite with the franchise.

Just saw a report that Collin's only got one year guaranteed on his deal with Detroit and as has been stated Powell is only guaranteed one in Chicago.  Interesting that fairly big time names are having to settle for short term deals.

I'm sure the next CBA negotiations will be quite ornery with the players getting mad that their long-term big deals are now a thing of the past.

He's better than both of them. Duren is just 22 years old, strong, athetic, built like Adonis, and the leap he had this year from last year, tells me he can get even better if he works on his game, after he bombed out in the playoffs. That's all on him. However, I don't think he's worth what he's asking but he's trying to maximize making 3rd team all NBA, so I get it.

We basically have a salary cap that isn't called a salary cap.  Still, does that fully explain the years part of these deals?  I don't perceive anyone is getting more dollars in exchange for a shorter guarantee.

One note on RFA's like Watson or Eason.  If we are going to take a stab at one of those for the MLE, you wouldn't announce it on 7/1.  You'd announce it much closer to the end of the moratorium.  I wouldn't have thought the MLE enough for any of the good RFA's, but who knows looking at some of the salaries players are getting.

Can we add Mathurin to that list? I prefer him over Eason anyway. Not sure that MMM would?

I disagree.

In my opinion was just a good player... Bad shooter when conts and a lot of mistake in clutch situation.

It's not a surprise that Boston chosen Jrue over him and won.

So who is the first mav to sign (probably with a new team)?  Middelton, Bagley, Williams, Powelll?

When I see a 3-year deal with only 1 guaranteed, my first assumption is that it's a S&T. $17mm a year is also the same money Klay makes. Maybe this is the Sasser deal. Klay to LAC, Collins to Detroit, and Sasser/2nds to Dallas. We could also structure it to get a big Klay-sized TPE, too.

I wouldn't mind Powell signing here.... as an assistant coach.

My guess would by Bagley. Middleton could be tied to the LeBron drama, which will probably drag out a while.

Free agent center Mitchell Robinson has agreed to a three-year, $47.4 million deal to sign with the Boston Celtics, with a player option in third season, sources tell ESPN. Robinson departs the Knicks after serving a key role on the historic championship team.

Big one here.
