I just hope we don't have to watch the good role players and former stars wither on the vine of a pointless season. Nothing the new front office has done so far indicates they're chasing some pointless W-L record. My only real expectation of them at this early stage is that they CONTINUE to do what's best for the long term health of this franchise.
You are basing you opinion on believing the following:
1. Kyrie won't come back and be himself and play the full season.
2. Lively won't come back and be himself and play the full season.
3. Dusty May will struggle.
4. Our first rounders will add nothing of substance.
5. We will sign no one else.
This is INSANELY negative to the point where I can't take you seriously.
The team last year tried to lose games and was better than .300

Yep, that would do it.

A lot will need to happen to this roster for that. I’m losing hope they are going to get much via MLE but trades are still an option. That was a Masai strong point so there is still reason for hope.

Many on the board are insanely negative.
That's fine. You guys will be on here in 6 months talking about how surprised you are and then scoping out the next thing to worry and be negative about.

I think some folks are underestimating how important creation and shooting are, and how limited this roster is in those areas right now. Hopefully some headway is made with trades.

Kyrie Irving is a hall of fame player known for his shot creation. He plays for the Mavs.
I like said, insanely negative.

I feel like I'm one of the more optimistic people here, but you also have to be realistic. Lively has played 98 games in 3 years and has been rumored to not be ready for training camp. Some saying that it could be career threatening. Of course, none of us know for sure, but to take a leap of faith and assume he will somehow play a full NBA season after already missing 60% of his young career. I can't get there.
Same for Kyrie. I think he could/would have come back last season if the Mavs are competitive... even so -- he hasn't played more than 60 games in a season in 10 years! coming off an ACL injury at age 34. Again, to make the assumption that he will somehow play a full NBA season, at an elite level, is a huge leap of faith.
Plus, as it stands right now the Mavs only have one NBA level Guard on the roster. One. It would take more than a Luka-like Year 2 jump for Flagg to make this team a playoff team.

Im curious how long it'll take for Cooper to force his way into Top 5 player conversations.
Probably not at 19 but we can hope.

He will be in his mid 20's before that's a conversation, the same as has ever been for literally any all time great player. And, each season they don't give him space via shooters will make the process take longer.

Yes, for sure. They have talent, it's just not in the right places. 2-3 awesome trades we don't currently see coming and it's a different conversation, but the roster as it stands today? With a first time ever head coach?
Not a playoff team. I'm starting to feel like some people here only watch Mavericks games.

1 nba level guard? Again I can’t take you guys seriously.

He is 34, has always been at his best next to a lead creator (LeBron/Luka) and based on his history will be lucky to play 50 games. They have Kyrie and a 20 year old Flagg and virtually nothing else creation wise. That’s not enough

I've seen Schroeder's name bounced around a couple of times already. Talent, yes, but terrible to put around our young guys. Not nauseating, vomit inducing.

Who is the other? Christie and Klay aren't what I'm talking about when I say "guard". Please don't say Nembhard or Sergio...

Seemed to do fine as the leader of Germany winning all the championships and MVP trophies?
People always assume others are not aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the suggested players. I´d also love to have Cade Cunningham, Anthony Edwards and Jaylen Brown. You know who also loves to have them? Their teams.

Sure seems like he wears out his welcome - his first 5 years with the Hawks and maxes at 2 since. Recall I said talented, yes, but don't want him around the young guys. Dirk even said no to the guy.

Totally agree. The guy has been on 11 teams! The 12th one isn't gonna turn it around.
Plus, isn't Bwill just a better version of him at this point if the Mavs decide to keep him?

[Stein] Sources close to the situation say that there are only two other teams that Kawhi Leonard would consider signing an extension with: Toronto and San Antonio. Sources insist that the Raptors have genuine interest in bringing Leonard back to Canada.
[Stein] Kawhi Leonard would NOT be open to signing an extension if traded to Miami or Detroit.
[Windhorst] The Pistons will pursue Kawhi Leonard once he clears the NBA’s investigation

Lonzo Ball and his busted knee or professional sport fisher Ben Simmons are still available
