2026 NBA draft thread

Nine of the final 15 picks of tonight’s first round indeed changed hands.

And yet, as I understand everything, not a single veteran player was traded.

Very uneventful draft from that perspective, compared to previous years

Dallas will need to work the trade market to balance out roster

Could they use Klay to obtain an early 2nd? Hmmm.

Yikes.  Are we sure Sergio is coming over?  Kyrie's knee is certainly going to get tested with our guard rotation.

Everybody apologize to the Bucks and Giannis. Didn´t hold up anything. Big Grin Big Grin

So it seems like Mavs moved from #30 to #25 without having to trade anything except maybe #48 (and maybe not even that?)

The wording seems to imply that they used the seconds from PHX to pay the cost of moving down.

I think he can keep up with the 3s, 2s, and 1s.  He is an elite defensive player.

Just kidding. A trade up would definitely signal that whoever it is was their GUY. Not just the one that dropped to 9.

He'll be playing for the Mavs next season. No stash here.

The Stein and Shams reports keep shifting a bit, and conflicting. But when they all draft tomorrow, we'll know what happened.

My best guess so far? PHX has no picks tomorrow, DAL will have 1 (48), and NY will be getting 47 and a future 2nd from PHX and a future 2nd from DAL. I do think the Mavs could have ended up with a better outcome than that, or a worse outcome - it's all murky reporting.

I don't especially care if the Mavs have a pick tomorrow, especially if it's in the bottom half. But I am curious to see how the Mavs did in the trade biz.

I wonder about guys like that at the NBA level though.
I've got the same concern with Zuby.

Thomas Robinson comes to mind of guys who were men amongst boys at the college level but their games struggle at the NBA level.
I hope like hell I'm wrong.

There is definitely work to be done.  Still have a TPE, MLE, Gafford and Klay.

I´m not pretty we got #47 and two future 2nd rounders from the Suns.

It´s just unclear whether we send the two future 2nd rounders from Phoenix to the Knicks or all three Suns pick PLUS two Mavs 2nd rounders, which Shams seems to suggest.

Google AI thinks he's a draft-and-stash for us. We need guard help now, dammit.

They need to invite him over for a visit, have him go one-on-one vs. the guard equivalent of Samaki Walker, and thus convince him that he's ready.

Yeah, a lot of work to be done.  I'm not trying to keep Klay, but that just further thins out the SG rotation.  We could always bring back Mavs legends THJ, Grimes and Kidd to fill out our guard needs.  :p

We traded 30 and two seconds to the Knicks for 25, and then they traded 30 to the Suns for three seconds.

Probably because that's what NY was planning to do and AI picking up on that.

Would be nice if we had a press conference tonight to explain everything like Nellie used to do, but I would imagine they'll wait until after the second round.

My thoughts, too. The initial stash reaction by ESPN was driven by the fact that they knew NY has major cap problems. My guess is that Dallas drafted him to play him asap.

No way he is Thomas Robinson. I think this is actually a very safe pick. You can easily see that he is an elite athlete, elite defender and poor shooter. Now the question is does he have the work ethic, desire and smarts to improve on his shooting to become the total package. Usually you have incomplete information, since you can only rely on 1-2 interviews and on college coaches that will praise their players, since they already need to recruit the next generation.

UNLESS of course you decide to hire the college coach and now he has an incentive to be 100% truthful about the potential and character of his players and he clearly must have agreed Johnson is that dude (over Lendeborg and Mara).
