My bet would be Morez Johnson over Mara here.

Michigan coach Dusty May is finalizing a deal to take the Dallas Mavericks head coaching job, sources told ESPN, an axis-shifting move that significantly alters the college and NBA landscape. May, 49, led Michigan basketball to the national title in 2026. He'll coach a franchise with Cooper Flagg as a linchpin piece. The Mavericks fired Jason Kidd after a 26-56 season last year.

I hope your right.  The only player I would be more disappointed than Ament at 9 would be Mara.  If they do go Morez, I hope its after a trade back.

I do too, but they almost have to know what's happening with #'s 10 and 11 if they trade down.

If they are stuck at #9, you go for Burries I think.... but if he's gone I still have no problem with Johnson as a #9 pick. Honestly, I think he's most NBA-ready player of anyone after #4 even if's not the sexiest pick. I think he's got more talent than PJ in almost every measureable way.

Last year he struggled.  Can he fit with Flagg?  He was injured often.  I think his perimeter defense was pretty bad last year.

Watching his tip 10 clip though you feel he could be a Masai guy though.  I think he needs good coaching and limit what he does.  He struggles when you ask him to do too much.  Would he be ok coming off the bench?

My view of PJW is a lot more positive than most here.

1 I think he's a way better player when there's a good offense initiator (to give him good shot opportunities) and less effective when he has to do it himself.
2 I think his defense and health are both WAYYYYY better when his team isn't trying to lose games.

As for his supposed non-fit with CF, I think a team with some good PGs, good coaching, and focused on winning can easily make that work.

If PJ sticks around, I personally would like to see some lineups with him at the 5 and Flagg at the 4. Flagg and PJ are both poor shooters if they're playing the forward spots together. I'd shop him around to see if someone values him as a legit starter.

There's no doubt in my mind that several teams would want him as a starting 4. Zero doubt. I think he's a PREMIUM role player on a very reasonable contract.

It's just a matter of finding the best situation for all involved, imho. You definitely can't afford to give him away, but I think he's maybe NOT a starter here anymore if things are progressing as I personally believe they should. We'll see what the new front office/head coach think soon, but I wouldn't be shocked if he was moved as early as tomorrow, frankly. You could tell me any of PJW, Gafford, Marshall, Thompson or even Kyrie was moved and I wouldn't be shocked one bit.

honestly wouldn't mind seeing all 4 of these dudes getting moved this offseason, as long as we're getting ok value

Kyrie I'd be shocked if he's traded before the season opener.

I get the Kyrie shock potential, in a sense.

But, things are changing daily for the Mavs, as we've seen. How sure are you that he's excited about playing in support of a 19 year old AND for a college coach? To be fair, I have no idea - he might love both of those things. He IS different. But, would it shock you if he wasn't into it? Further, it's the same conversation we're having in the other thread about Trae Young/AD for me. How excited are YOU to give Kyrie another deal after this one? Doesn't it make sense for all involved, teams and player, for Kyrie to get somewhere contention-ready enough to offer him another lucrative deal? I'm not 100% positive that won't happen in Dallas, but it doesn't strike me as likely and he's obviously already thinking about that. He's not stupid.

I don't think the hiring of May changed ANYTHING in the Mavs thinking or direction. That would be backwards management by the Mavs FO. They hired May to execute what they already intend to do. They felt he as the one that can do that the best.

Nor do I think it is some sort of game-changer for Kyrie. I would wager he wants the best coach possible (and the coach wants the best talent possible).

I think there is zero upside to trading him now coming off an ACL tear. I don't logically understand the urgency of trading him now versus at the trade deadline. At all. It feels like fans have a to do list of things they want to accomplish and there's this anxiety to accomplish everything on that list ASAP. Sometimes it's best to just let things play out and let opportunities present themselves.

I'd much rather take the gamble he is looking like Kyrie Irving 3-4 months into the season, than trade him for a pupu platter right now because omg he doesn't fit the timeline and we gotta do something.

Sure, you've said before.

But what if he wants out now? That's the part I wouldn't be shocked about.

What if pigs fly?

There has been no indication, no whisper, nothing whatsoever, to indicate that Kyrie wants out, or that the Mavs want to trade him. NONE.

You keep pushing this concept, over and over, but everything we see and hear is THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE. Maybe that should be considered as what we should expect? I sure think so.

Kyrie's one of the greatest players to ever walk the planet earth.  For as long as I can remember the Mavs have been impetuous about making personnel moves (including pennies on the dollar for Day-to-Davis just a short while after we traded Luka away for him).  For once, for the love of all that is holy, let's slow walk this so if the time does come that we need to make a trade, we get appropriate value for him.  That said, I hope he never plays in another jersey and shows Flagg and Wilson how to be champions.

Apparently this was before the pick for De Larrea, which is where my questions would be.
