Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
Gary Washburn: "My point was they're not shopping Jaylen Brown. They're not dangling him around the league and going, okay, who wants Jaylen? And they're, of course, they're going to ask the best case scenario, the best possible trade for Giannis without including Jaylen. Now that would be very pricey for the salary cap. That would take them in, is there a third apron or a fourth apron that they would probably take them into? But I'm sure that they're looking around and trying to figure out, one, is this a good fit for our organization? Two, do we want to trade Jaylen and break this pairing up and completely change how we play?"

One of the things the board doesn't talk about much is the possibility making draft day trades from our current roster to acquire "future" picks for the '27 '28 and '29 drafts. This particular draft is pretty sexy, so I get it. But if you're the FO, this is probably something to consider if you're shuffling your roster around.

I doubt that would impact the #9 pick, but everything else seems like fair game. Honestly, the most surprising thing to me would be if the Mavs picked #s 9, 30, and 48 and nothing else happened.

Cedric Maxwell: "I am a huge Jaylen Brown fan, huge. What I understand is that Jaylen right now is up for, I think an extension, and it would be $70 million a year. If he doesn't sign that extension, now the Celtics have to do what they have to do, and they're probably just trying to move him. And if it was to get Giannis, I would hate to see, but I understand the business of it. I am one of the biggest Jaylen Brown fans around, because when I used to see him, I'd say, 'What's happening, MVP?' And he'd look at me and he'd say, 'Takes one to know one.' And I was like, 'Hey, that was cool as hell.' I felt big then. So, if that trade happened, not only would you miss Jaylen as a player, you'd miss what he brings to the team intellectually."

New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III could be more obtainable in this transaction cycle, league sources said. Murphy is a player the Warriors front office has circled for years as a prime wing who fits a need, the Kerr system and, at 25, accomplishes the goal of getting younger. The Pelicans have clung to him tightly, but league sources said New Orleans has been signaling a desire to jump into the first round of next week's draft. The Warriors have the 11th pick and control of their future firsts.

Teams may not be willing to give up those picks due to the anti-tanking draft rules.

You dont think they could reconstruct this roster to compete for .500?  Golden State made the playin last year with a 37-45 record.

One stat that sticks with me from last season's train wreck is that DAL played in 45 "clutch" games, tied for most in the league, finishing 17-28. The top ten includes playoff teams like Houston, Denver, Orlando and Detroit. IF you look at it from win %, then the top ten is all playoff teams. So you have to be able to close out games to be successful in this league.

I'm just saying that, given the problems this team had and the rotation holes due to injury, they were still competitive late in 55% of their games.

Kyrie, if he stays, is one of the best game finishers around. Flagg made monster strides once he decided to stop deferring to the vets. A little more defense (Lively?) and better offensive balance (FRP?) could improve that W/L significantly. Roster moves are going to happen, but this team should be competitive if healthy.

If healthy will continue to be the theme, won't it. It's the unfortunate reality thus far.

I posed the question on Discord a few days ago, but if you could guarantee 70+ games of the Kyrie-Flagg-Lively trio, how many games do you think they win next year? 50? 45?

These days, it's that way for almost all the teams.  Very few teams can overcome injuries to their best 1/2 players for long stretches.

Boston was the rare exception...but still in a weak East.  If they were in the West, it would have been a different story.

If that trio stays healthy and their play hasn't dropped off, given the return from injury - 45 would be the min they would win.  Only goes up from there depending on everyone around them.

45 in the west is a pretty good number... Maybe too high.

I Will be ok even with a 70 season games by Lively and another step for Coop.

I think 45 is probably high, but it doesn't matter.  Kyrie has not played 70 games in a season since he was 24, and I would be happy if they can get 50 games out of Lively.

I deal with a lot of health problems. Last February I was in the hospital and on some really heavy drugs. When I fully came out of it I said to a girlfriend "I had the CRAZIEST hallucination that the Mavs traded Luka." Her face fell as if she didn't have the heart to tell me. I caught up on everything days after the fact by reading the posts here.

Well, as much as I live for the Draft and trades, I'm having a surgery in the next few days and may not have my wits to drink in everything. So I just wanted to say that I love you guys and gals. You're a great distraction from life. I look forward to catching up on everything on the other side.

Please don't pick Ament at #9!

(Sorry for hijacking the amazing trade thread.)

This feels more relevant now. Need to work up something for Boston.

@JWeinbachNBA
The Celtics, Raptors, Hawks, Hornets, and Lakers are teams worth mentioning as possible suitors for Daniel Gafford.

I would say there’s an increasing likelihood of Gafford being moved this offseason.

He was signed to a deal that was structured to make it easy to trade.  One thing that sometimes happens is talks that start at one trade window can sometimes lead to deals at the next window.  That is part of why I posted a Gafford to Atlanta deal last night that included Risacher and swapping 8 and 9.  Another version would be swapping 30 for 23 and the same two players.

Personally, I don't see the need in Charlotte with two decent young centers and two picks in the teens.  Unless someone thinks we are taking back Poeltl, Toronto doesn't make sense either.

Get well soon.  I think all of us use this as a distraction from the real world.
