Raptors have all their picks, but this year is gonna be in the 20’s and may be there for the next few years.

I think getting that Pelicans FRP swap from the Hawks should be of the utmost importance. Getting 2 chances at a top 4 pick (with one of them at a 52% chance), is probably the best possible scenario. Plus, if the Bucks continue to fall, that Pelicans swap reads as: ATL gets the best choice between both the Pelicans AND Bucks pick. So if the Bucks jump in the lotto then that's another chance at a top 4 pick. I get the idea that draft picks don't always turn out and that AD is good right now, but imagine pairing Cooper with AJ AND Darryn Peterson? Rissacher is just icing on that cake. AD to ATL for those Rissacher+that pick is my dream realistic trade currently. The timeline is reset. We'd have 3-4 premier talents all on their rookie deals.

Even getting one of AJ, Peterson, Boozer and ANOTHER top 10 pick would be a huge reset along with a Flagg, Lively, Max, and Risascher. That doesnt doesnt count what we could get if sell off older pieces such as Kyrie, Klay, P.J., Gafford, Naji, etc. If we can trade AD for Risascher and that Pelicans pick. I say we start the hard rebuild. Maybe keep Kyrie and P.J. for veteran leadership, etc. But the rest need to go.

I don’t see a scenario where we’d get the Pels pick and keep our pick, and I’m skeptical they’d even agree to a swap depending on where the Pelicans are at by the deadline. We should also keep the 2027 draft in mind as well for an AD trade because we don’t have that pick, be nice to have a pick in every draft at least, even if we have some crappy swaps coming with the Spurs and Thunder in the future.

I also don't think Dallas could get the Pels pick in an AD trade, but I do think something around PJ to OKC for Caruso+lottery pick on draft night could be a possibility. Maybe that lands them another great young player just outside of the Dybantsa/Peterson/Boozer tier.

Not to defend the horrible way the MBT handled JB, but JB isn't the JB of today if he were still in Luka's shadow. It's still pretty amazing how badly one of the best drafts ever was fumbled by our beloved Mavs.

Saw a proposed trade and is probably best case scenario for AD. KP, Newell, Kennard, 2027 NOP/MIL pick, 2026 ATL swap with CLE/SA. Gives us salary relief, a young player in Newell, a pick later in the first of this draft, and a potential lottery pick in 2027 when we have no pick.

Biggest issue with that ATL scenario is that Dallas would have to cut a player or dump DAR in the deal which either cuts into the potential return or makes the trade too much salary going out...
By the time the deal is able to be completed (after the season IMO) Atlanta knows exactly which pick they are giving up and where AD is health wise and are not willing to deal OR are too willing and the return is not the windfall we dream of today. |
