This is especially true if Gafford were to move. Okongwu is younger and has more to his offensive game than Gafford. His stretch ability helps spread things out for Flagg, yet he is perfectly capable as a roll man or from the dunker's spot. No way Atlanta gives up what would currently be the #1 overall pick. Best you could hope for their middle pick in 26 and the Milwaukee pick they own in 2027. The problem with Atlanta is they are better set up to deal with Milwaukee, so as long as Giannis is a possibility... I am with you on not getting the Toronto thing. Poeltl and Barret seem like logical salaries, but why would Mavs want that? Unless they would be shipped to other teams. Still, Toronto would need to include more salaries, which would leave them holes around the roster. Quickley instead of Poeltl or Barret? Another overpaid player on a long-term deal. Atlanta has three large salaries in KP, Johnson and Trae and one of them would need to be included. I think Johnson is too young and too good to be included in such a move. KP is basically an ideal player to allow Davis to play PF that he prefers. I doubt Atlanta would include both of their centers (KP+Okongwu) for Davis. KP+Risacher works nicely for both teams salary wise, although Atlanta would be down to 13 players with only 1 million left under the first apron. Perhaps Atlanta adds Kennard and takes something else from Mavs. If the target was Giannis, I would have zero problems including Trae, as Giannis and Daniels could handle PG duties adequately, imho. But Davis is not Giannis in terms of creating for himself or others, he needs a PG. So unless there is a deal that nets Atlanta a decent PG, it is difficult to imagine Trae. On Dallas side, Trae could work nicely surrounded with all the defense Mavs have, but not with Kyrie. Detroit could make a lot of sense for Davis, as they seem to be a team that is one move away from being a true contender. But, they would also have a bunch of difficult decisions to make. AD next to Duren is a huge question mark, since it is almost impossible to be a contender with two non shooters. I would not really deal Duren for AD, if I am Detroit. Detroit is already one of the worst shooting teams as it is (third worst in attempts and 19th best in makes). But, if they have answers to those question marks, they certainly make a lot of sense.

First and foremost they need a true 3-D wing, someone who really takes pride in playing defense and is adequate on offense (think Herb Jones, Wiggins types). If those are not available, I doubt LA will spend any assets on moves around the edges. They have a key offseason coming, where they will likely have to replace LeBron and will have several paths to do it. Cap space, SnT, 3 FRP,... There would perhaps be a deal, if Mavs would be intrigued in Vincent and Kleber with no assets attached (add one more salary on Mavs side to make the salaries work). I see Detroit as a team that could really use Klay and his shooting. They wanted to keep Beasley, which went wrong and they really miss such a guy. I think Klay could be great coming of the bench for Detroit.

Feels like the Mavs would have to add a sweetener. He's a RFA next year and will probably command mid-20M AAV?

I'm not looking to push for the playoffs, but I would prefer to not repeat the shitshow of last season and the organizational incompetence it represents.

But Detroit doesn't look for 3's like most teams. They'll take open looks, but like you said, they don't shoot a good percentage as a team. Cunningham and Robinson are probably their best 3 pt shooters. Detroit plays in the paint and shoots middies. They lead the league in paint points.

@esidery The East’s No. 1 seed Pistons, who will pursue a trade for Anthony Davis, have the necessary assets to make a trade with the Mavericks. Detroit can create a package headlined by Jaden Ivey, Tobias Harris’ $26.6 million expiring contract, another role player, plus draft capital.

Is Ron Holland a whole lot of nothing? Top-5 pick in 2024 if I recall but he hasn’t done anything in the NBA so far. Picks from Detroit don’t do much for me they will be in the 20s for a while.

One of those roll of the dice upside picks who either hit or are out of the league in a few years. I have only seen him play a few times though. I want shooters though. To be honest though, I may prefer Holland over Ivey. Look at the 24 highlights of Ivey and he looks great. I really liked him in college too. Although last year he had a terrible injury and then a knee scope before the season. I watched some videos of his recent games and it looks like he is still trying to get back the athleticism. Those type of players scare me. He was awesome in college though.

He further crowds the forward position, so Naji might need to be outgoing in such a deal.

The AD/Martin/Hardy for Harris/Stewart/ Ivey and two first-rounders probably has me saying "yes".
