pretty impressive.  I don't think he shoots close to that percentage as the year goes on.     I think he is on a heater now.   I think he will have much more games scoring 6 than he will score 20.  Although, I think his running the offense, low turnovers and getting the ball to players in their shooting zone will all be helpful even if he doesn't score.    

It is pretty remarkable how everyone looks for him to get him the ball after a rebound.  Before he was playing most players tried to bring the ball up themselves.   It was one of the reasons the offense was so choppy.  No one else could get players good looks before setting up the offense imo.

I think it's almost inevitable that he's will score about 10-14 ppg. He has that one little jumper at the top of the key that's almost a gimme, plus he gets his share of transition layups. I'm more concerned that he get his assists at about 7-8 a game. If he can manage that, that would be a difference maker. Since he shot 40% on 3s his last season at Gonzaga, I feel good about him hitting above the league average.

My (predictable) interpretation: they are just waiting for Presti, who has told them he won't switch teams until after the season. 

He's waiting to collect his 2nd ring in OKC. Then he'll take the massive reward for going to do it again in Dallas and showing the world he can do it anywhere.

Is this a bit you are doing? Presti will never come here. There is a better chance Luka returns to Dallas in free agency in 2028. The new Lakers owners are literally the richest people on the planet with actual sports washing ambitions. If Presti ever becomes available, he´ll GM a Luka team, just not this one.

Good discussion about whether to trade AD or not — or rather, when to trade him.

I understand the point about letting him increase his value, but I completely disagree.

Why?

I know this is subjective and not rational but purely emotional — I just want this nightmare to end. Every time AD hits the floor or takes contact, my heart stops and I’m afraid that this time he might really be done. Even if he stays relatively healthy (which is a big if given his history), I can’t keep going through this. Imagine he actually suffers a serious injury and his career ends the way DeMarcus Cousins’ did. Then his value would be really low. And unfortunately, that’s not the most unlikely scenario.

So I’d pass. Give me a decent role player and 2–3 draft picks and call it a day.

Again, it’s not rational — it’s emotional reasoning.

Anthony Davis of the Dallas Mavericks, another former NBA champion, is expected to be a critical trade target of several teams, including many of the East's contenders. The Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors are expected to be suitors for Davis, league sources told ESPN.

The Mavericks are open to exploring the trade markets for Davis, center Daniel Gafford and guards Klay Thompson and D'Angelo Russell, sources said. Davis' agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, has met with Mavericks interim co-general managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi, and requested clarity about whether the franchise wants to extend Davis in the offseason or trade him ahead of the deadline. Finley and Riccardi accepted the message and stated the franchise wants to keep its options open and view how the team plays for the next few weeks. They have not ruled out the possibility of an extension.

The Pistons (19-5), Raptors (15-10) and Hawks (14-11) represent high-level threats in their conference and are having seasons that give hope that a player like Davis -- a 10-time All-Star who has spent his entire career in the Western Conference -- can elevate them into a viable championship-quality team.

Davis, who turns 33 in March, will become eligible Aug. 6 to sign up to a four-year, $275 million max extension. The extension would pay him $76 million in his age-37 season. Without an extension, he can be a free agent in 2027 if he declines his $62.8 million player option that offseason.

Thompson, who joined Dallas during free agency in July 2024, was sold on joining the Mavericks to play alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on a team coming off a run to the Finals. With Doncic gone and the franchise winning at a below-.500 clip, teams across the league know Thompson prefers to be part of a contender over the remaining two years of his three-year, $50 million deal. After a slow start to the season, the four-time champion is averaging 12.8 points per game on 39.5% 3-point shooting in his past 10 games while holding opponents to 38.5% shooting as their closest defender, which ranks 10th out of 120 guards to defend 50-plus shots since the stretch began.


Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has taken a patient approach since firing general manager Nico Harrison on Nov. 11. Dumont has relied on Finley, Riccardi, coach Jason Kidd and minority owner Mark Cuban in his front office corps, and has given Finley and Riccardi the power to lead conversations on the franchise's future. A GM search is still expected in the offseason, and Finley and Riccardi are expected to be candidates, sources said.

Dallas has wanted to evaluate its roster as much as possible, even as Irving, who tore his ACL in March, is out indefinitely. Nothing really surprising about that report.   Mavs need to keep their options open on AD.  They don't need to rush things though.   I guess the only suprising thing is the non rush of hiring a GM.  I think they should take their time but there are some pretty important decisions that may need to be made prior to this.

No surprise DLO is on the block.  He does not have a role here when the team is mostly healthy.    It may be hard to find a spot for him.  Only 6 million for this year and next but he has not played to that level this year.    Klay is obviously on the block.  His recent good play should make him attractive to teams.   Not sure what the mavs could get back though.  I am hoping he lands on a contender he has been nothing but a pro here...at least from what i have seen.

No surprise with Gafford either.   He is also a pro.   You could take your time there too depending on health and what happens with AD.

I had once upon a time posted KP/Risacher/picks as an idea.  I now wonder if it wouldn't be KP/Okongwu/picks instead.  This is especially true if Gafford were to move.  Okongwu is younger and has more to his offensive game than Gafford.  His stretch ability helps spread things out for Flagg, yet he is perfectly capable as a roll man or from the dunker's spot.  No way Atlanta gives up what would currently be the #1 overall pick.  Best you could hope for their middle pick in 26 and the Milwaukee pick they own in 2027.  The problem with Atlanta is they are better set up to deal with Milwaukee, so as long as Giannis is a possibility...

I see things I like from Detroit, but don't get the Toronto thing.  I'd add GSW to the list of possible Gafford destinations.

Lol, I would take either Riacher or the pick, but I doubt AD can land either.  I hope the talks of Dallas extending is just agent talk.  That would be a disaster.

These AD hypothetical returns are depressing. AD expecting a max extension is not helping. But I don't see the point in keeping him. Thankfully we don't have an owner (it seems) that wants to keep AD just to keep the team in the play in conversation to sell tickets.

I'm with Gump on zero interest in Kuminga.

Toronto trade just doesn't make sense.  You would have to include Poeltl to make the money work.  No interest in that contract.

I think with the injuries trying to make the team go win now mode is a risk and hindsight so we just have to choose and go in that direction we can stealth tank and be in shot of getting a good pick should major injuries dictate we halt the effort to go all in on winning.

I personally would choose win now and my strategy would be to keep our top talent here now so we can build that chemistry and give the guys a shot at going far as they can. Tearing things down is not fun so I feel its the best solution for all involved. AD may be the one exception but if he can play and do so with a 30 point scoring average then there is no reason to trade him anywhere and doing so may be kind of dumb.

Nemby is a major turn of luck and when was the last time a rookie PG came into the league and they had that major of an effect. Tony Parker in San Antonio is the one that comes to mind and look what they did his rookie season?

2 rookies starting and winning is awesome for the teams future prospects so I think given we have that going we can now go all in on winning.

Our biggest draft needs are at PG or a PG that can also play SG with size and as many centers as we have a PF that is able to play and start at the 5 like Dirk did. We got one pick so any trades we need to get another pick. That is how the determination of success in any trade will be made.

The team is solid even if we lose AD for a long period of time but if that happens forget trading him his value just dropped below what is needed to get a piece back and this is the predicament that may force us to trade him sooner than later.

Cooper PJ Naji Gafford Powell Cisse is a decent frontcourt and it is even better if AD is in it but you got to do what you got to do. Not trading him is too risky. You lose that bet the minute he plays and gets hurt again.

The backcourt with Irving and Nemby is solid at PG.

SG we can use Klay Max Hardy but once Kyrie comes back he is also an option next to Nemby and Bwill. If they alkl get hot they can all play and get us points. The rotation is strong enough with Kyrie back that win now makes sense if we get Irving back at the level he was performing prior to his injury. That happens then there is no way we cannot go far if the team is able to maintain the health of its stars.

Say we can add another pick trading off some pieces here and there.

Say we get another great starting level PG/ SG that can amp the offense to another level.

The defense is solid already and was even without AD so that takes us to another level with that one pick.

If we can sneak in another pick then we could add a PF/center and solidify the frontcourt as well.

We are solid at PF and SF and C could be improved enough that we could trade off Gafford next season and snag another decent player.

Older guys that we can trade off now to find a pick: Klay Dlo Martin Powell.

Now with our luck if we can snag some 2nd round picks in addition to another first we can secure even more solid talent and if we get that 6'9 PG we have another multi position PG like Luka was with size enough to pass over the top of everyone so we can use our size as a major advantage then use or water bugs as a change of attack and go small at point with Nemby and Bwill and Irving in there to score and attack or be a sniper from 3. All 3 of the PG's can hot 3's at a better than average %.

That happens and if we add at least 2 more rookies next seasons roster could look a little like this.

Been saying the Hawks for a while:

KP/Kennard/Asa Newell and their crappy pick this year and their 2027.

I believe they can also take on Exum (not positive) in this structure so they would just need to waive KP.

The future assets aren't the best as what some others have thrown around but I'm just setting conservative expectations for myself. AD's extension talks is going to tank is value pretty hard regardless of how healthy and well he plays the next couple weeks I'm afraid. Also....what is Rich Paul smoking man...

Come on, most GMs aren't as dumb as Nico. They know if they trade for AD, that an extension will likely be needed or it's just for a push right now. So I'm not worried about that talk and tanking his value.

His value is tanked and if traded - your gonna get pennies on the dollar for what we moved to get him.

I really don't know what to expect in a return other than maybe cap relief and a late 1st or heavily protected 1st.
