I don't think they plan on waiting that long (end of the season). It will be hard to move AD due to salary matching limitations, but I expect there to be other moves by the TDL. Probably sending out Klay. Possibly trading Kyrie if he wants to move on. Plenty of other options. I don't they can afford to wait until end of season and potentially miss out on opportunities. I think they need to make the GM hire ASAP.

If it's gonna be Ujiri or Lindsey (or Ricardi, I suppose) no need to wait.

Hiring now would limit our options, but I don't have a feeling one way or another how quickly they'll act. There are some big names out there like Myers and Ujiri as well as the folks with Maverick ties.

To be clear, I don’t think DAL gets OG and Robinson and 2 FRP
I think OG + Robinson is reasonable outgoing from NYK
DAL could flip Robinson ideally for 1 FRP or at least multiple seconds
DAL could also reroute OG for a young player and a FRP
My point is we’re probably looking at a return similar to 1-2 FRP + young player

I think street clothes has still a good value around the league (Rich Paul helps despite i hate him and Clutch), Mavs days will not affect too much. Trust me. The off basketball situations were too big.
He is a great 2nd/3rd guy on a championship team.... But like i said 9months ago he is the worst Batman in the league. Soft and always injuried.

Chicago has two 1st round picks next summer, their own and a 1st from POR. If we could get them both that’s where I‘d start to look first given that both teams could end up being lottery teams.
With Flagg already being here youd be one sole full blown tank season away from
1) Flagg
2) Top 3-5 pick in 2026 via DAL
3) & 4) two more lottery picks via POR / CHI
That would be a heck of a young core. Extremely talented.
I would not rule out bringing back Kyrie given how exceptionally well he has handled his time here. Just don’t rush him this season. Having a veteran PG would increase the „floor“ significantly over the years where they don’t have control over their picks. As he gradually slows down over time there would be plenty other options to take over.
E.g. Mavs on opening night 2026
Irving
Peterson | Christie
Flagg | Marshall
Washington
Lively | Gafford
+ two more lottery guys
That’s an exciting team I‘d love to see compete for a playoff / playin spot with plenty of upside.
_____
Sry I have to:
And then roll over the money until whenever Luka becomes and UFA again.
Doncic
Peterson
Flagg
PJ
Steinbach from Würzburg
6th man: Kyrie
Oh my god…..

The Blazers pick is top 14 protected.
However, Portland's pick would most likely still land at 15 or 16, which, in this draft, would still be a valuable asset.
If the Mavs, via this trade and draft had:
- a top 3 pick
- a pick 10-14, and
- a pick 15-16
That would be some nice capital.

Collin Sexton/Jared McCain
Cooper Flagg/Kevin Porter/DFS
PJ Washington/Kyle Kuzma
Zeke Nnaji/Bobby Portis/Adem Bona/Cisse
Fred VanVleet and Taurean Prince - injured
Plus following draft capital
27 1st from Cha - Mavs pick back
29 1st swap w/ Pho/Hou most favorable
30 1st swap from Mil
31 1st swap from Denver
32 1st from GS

I think I hated every single move they proposed except getting the 27 pick back.

I think my favorite deal that could be sold to Mavs fans is
Barnes + Olynyk + Harper straight up

Man, I'd looooove them to get their hands on Harper.
I just don't think SA feels the need to go to those lengths to accelerate their time line. I think AD helps them, sure, but I don't know if they really need help like that yet.

The CBS Sports--Tearing down the Mavs was a pretty good write up. I don't know if it's possible or legal, but it's interesting. I don't like some of the players we would end up with. This would be a team in flux while being built around Cooper Flagg, who I think is worth considering as a focal point. Flagg is not the flashy kind of player, but I think he's going to be really good.
What interests me most about this trade scenario is the "Draft Capitol."
I can't believe it but--I think I'm on the "Tank" train. Something I've rarely done...

DAL can’t just take a low ball offer and move on. They’ll still have to sell an AD trade to the fans and I just don’t think Max Christie, Coby White and a couple of FRPs is a sellable return for Luka Doncic.
Ownership wants a new arena and needs fan support. A new arena in Dallas will be good for the league.

Well thats just the reality of the situation
Either we trade AD for a similar package soon or he's gonna be here at 38 making $70 million a year

Hey, preaching to the choir! I'd still be ok with keeping AD for a while, honestly. You go to him and say "we want you to be the starting center here, AD. Are you up for that?" If he says yes, you move Gafford for a guard or a pick or both, trade Thompson for a guard or a pick and hope the team improves really quickly. There's a very real chance that if you hit on those deals, get AD and Lively healthy and continue developing Flagg, Christe and Williams, there could be something decent here by the time Kyrie comes back 100%. If you're smart about all of the above and add another interesting piece through the draft, maybe next year is a lot of fun!
If you get a good offer for AD, I could get behind that, too, only at that point I think I purge all the 30-somethings, including Kyrie. In that scenario, I probably keep Gafford, but IF I'm keeping Gafford AND Lively, I'm 100% prioritizing a PICK AND ROLL ball-handler. They don't have to be a heliocentric Luka replacement, but I'm leaning back towards being a spread pick and roll team FOR SURE if Lively/Gafford are my centers. Otherwise, you've basically thrown that Gafford money in the trash, to my way of thinking.
There probably isn't much point in trying to completely bottom out, because in that scenario you'd need control of your own picks to really do it right. But, if they can choose one of the paths above (I could be talked into either) AND find their way for '26 to be a lottery pick, sign me up.

I'm optimistic honestly, we have seen a lot of no sense trade... Gobert for 6 FRPs is one of the first who shocked me!
If we have time the right trade will come... Maybe with 4/5 teams involved.

Honestly, any deal that includes the Pelicans pick is a yes for me.
But yeah, it will be hilarious.
I still don't think Atlanta would do it. It will be KP and filler, KP being just an expiry.
Pelicans pick is worth a fortune atm, it looks like a potential top 5 pick in a great draft
Yeah it´s not a remotely realistic trade. Hawks would hang up. I could just not resist the irony of Trae Young becoming a Maverick or including the Pelicans pick. Straight up the Hawks could consider it, but we need at least one pick in this next draft.
That being said the huge success of the Hawks without Young might tempt them to trade Porzingis + NAW + Pelicans 1st for AD, if they believe they can make a NBA finals push with Young, Daniels, Johnson, AD, Okungwu. Not completely out of the question.
Then Dumont can prove how much he really wants to make amends, cause that takes the Mavs over the 2nd apron for this year.
