Mavs signed Dalano Banton today.
They made room by waiving Cleveland, who is likely bound for their GL roster. Banton signing is almost certainly designed to go down the same path.
He's a huge PG - 6-9. Some good highlights. But he's a lousy shooter.

Great. There has been some fanbases that have tried to talk themselves into him over the last few years. Was he drafted with a second round pick the Mavs traded? He has had some moments. Not being able to shoot is probably the limiting factor. Still though, I am all for bringing in guys if you squint hard enough you can see something over guys who are just camp bodies. He still may be a camp body but interesting.
I do find it interesting that with DSJ and now Banton that Dallas has brought in two point guards. Maybe this is a pure talent play but interesting the players they are looking to fill their camp roster with.
Does he have two way availability left?

Nope, not 2-way eligible. By all appearances, this is purely going to be a Legends play, where the Mavs probably see more of how he's doing this year, but have no actual rights. If things change, it's a convenient connection, but they have no roster room or under-apron money to add him until/unless they make a trade. Same with DSJ and JRE.

Great. Even if they do not own their rights it is always nice to be an organization where players in their 20's think i it is desirable to go to get back in the league. For years their G-league team was as spare as you can get. Maybe he Kessler Edwards and Brandon Williams helped changed this. Or maybe Mavs realize that eventhough the odds are really small, you should try every avenue because you never know when or how you hit one until you try.

Great observations.
I give the design of the roster a lot of credit for their increased ability to develop players to be useful, where they sometimes have an open roster spot to work for, but Kidd deserves major props on this front as well, because he uses everyone, it seems, and they all are probably aware of that. I know many here think Kidd is a crappy coach, but by every standard that counts for much in my book (in particular, player development, buy-in up and down the roster, and team results), imo he's proving himself to be one of the best.
Last year, they had Kai, BW, and Edwards at the end of the year, and earlier in the year Gortman, getting extended stints as 2-ways. The Mavs only had room (and possible minutes) to keep BW, but ALL of the others except Kai got NBA roster spots this season with someone. That's impressive work.

Yes. He was drafted by Toronto in 21 and played for Boston as well.
