Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST
Westbrook always gives 100% which makes helps me over look his frequent blunders on the court.

He brings a lot of energy, but he's a really crappy 3-point shooter. Last year was an outlier year for him (in a good way) at 32%. Normally, you can hide a stat like that a little bit .... but he can't. He just can't. We will get reminded of it in every game. He will shoot it with the game on the line and will clank it off the rim assuming the ball actually hits the rim. He will have no defenders near him, because that's exactly what they want to have happen.

The fan base will never actually like him. If he doesn't screw up a game, we will all nod our head and be thankful. But there will be multiple games where we hate him.

Having just come from Nico-Hell, I don't not want to drag that atmosphere back to the surface if I can help it.

Warts aside, I liked Westbrook’s season in Denver. Two problems, as I see the situation:

1) since Denver is the first place he has fit in YEARS, I assume he’s dying to go back.

2) badly as they need some of what he can do, I don’t the think the Mavs are currently built to withstand bad shooting at the guard positions. Spacing on offense might be a real weakness next season, depending on how things shake out from here.

I think the Mavs are built more easily to survive poor shooting than they are to survive with poor offensive creation.

The Mavs are big. Their lineup 3-5 is some of the strongest (if not the strongest) in the league. Between Flagg, AD, Lively, Gafford, PJ, and even Naji, this team can easily survive missed shots. Their offensive system relies on getting the ball to the big man, either through lobs, post touches, or PnR/handoffs. Westbrook can be that guy still in terms of finding the open man.

As to your point 1), as much as I think he enjoyed his time in Denver, it's hard to see him to pass up the opportunity to start and play 30+ mpg again on a team with playoff aspirations. In Denver he'll remain on the bench. Here, at least until March, he's the full time starter. That does have value. And in terms of rehabbing WB's image, if he should come in and perform well, so well that the Mavs are actually a strong team, it's hard not to see him parlaying that into one last semi-big contract of near MLE money for 1-2 years.

Even Westbrick is better than another Dinwiddie season...

Ok, I hope Giannis stays in Mil. I also hope KD goes to Miami. Neither are contenders but keeps a few good players out of the West.

Indy, KNicks, Cleveland, Orlando, Boston (I still think they will get high 40's wins). Can anyone else join that group? Is there a trade that catupults another east team. If Embid was healthy, I would say them. Just not sure that is the case any longer.

I read that the Clippers could be on the outside of the main suitors for a KD trade. Difficult to see how they would have the winning bid, but if they added KD without giving up Zubac that could be a contender. I think I would hate them getting KD the most. May only open up a short window, but that would be a talented squad. Tough to see how they make it happen though.

@MavsRealist
So according to Tim Cato, it sounds like the Mavericks and Kyrie have agreed tentatively to an extension. But they're waiting for other Domino's in the trade market to fall before signing.

Reading between the lines what that tells me is they want to give him the most money possible after making a couple of trades. I'm just guessing here but that's what it sounds like. Sounds like he's playing ball with the organization and wants to make the team better and then recoup as much money as he can after that.

I hope I'm right and that makes Kyrie Irving goated here

Good news, and this is an unrelated, pointless tangent...AND, I think it might cement my status as the old, "get off my lawn" guy, but...I'm growing increasingly annoyed that our society has degraded to the point where almost nobody understands how an apostrophe works these days.

I guess they are waiting for all those pizza franchises to decide whether they are in or out of the FA market.  Cool

Just listened to their podcast.  If this come's from what Cato said there, he didn't go nearly this far.  They were responding to Bobby Mark's suggestion that Dallas try to sign Kyrie to a 3 year $113mm extension.  Cato was talking about how thing's might work and what the timing might be in such a scenario.  He didn't say anything about anything being tentatively agreed to...at least not on todays show.

Keep in mind that this is the house Dirk Nowitzki and Luka Doncic built, so English might not be the first language of many users here. Wink

seems expensive. I would pass, I think. Although Murphy is going to be really expensive. Probably need something like this to get New Orleans attention.

PJ, Gafford and two firsts for Murphy.

Appreciate you reeling in some Twitter hyperbole.

I have not been able to listen to the podcast yet. I do have a long drive coming up so my chance will be there soon. Seems like a random twitter dude took things a bit too far.

With the new CBA, you hear how difficult it is to sign three big contract players (max or near max). If you do sign 3, that third player better be worth it. I was thinking how this will impact good players like PJ and Gafford. Does their value stay the same because they are below the top money earners, or do they also see a changing market moving forward? For instance, is 15 million for a very good rotation center good? Is 20 million for a very good role playing wing good? Or will demand still be there? Or is demand there but price competition is not far apart?

The Suns are “Only a piece or two away” from a deal getting done for Kevin Durant, per @ShamsCharania

They are not there yet, but I wonder when Ishibia and his staff realize that they can turn this into a contender and will need to move Booker. It is the only way imo. Have you looked at their roster? Some nice pieces but man is it pretty low on talent. Having KD get hurt and the albatross of Beal's contract didn't help, but I see no way they turn this current iditeration into a contender. Sooner or later they will need to make the really tough choice that they are better off re-setting.
