MAVS NEWS:
@MavsFilmRoom
MacMahon said he has a story coming out after the Mavs are eliminated about why Dirk Nowitzki and Mark Cuban are no longer involved with the franchise.

Says Dirk is turned off by the state of the Mavs and that Nico wanted Cuban out of basketball operations after the sale.

Pretty damning if Dirk can turn his back on the franchise.  #IStandWithDirk

But, but, but … defense wins championships! And not a poor loser like Dirk.

Boy, I'll say.. I wonder how's Dirk's relationship with Cubes is now, after he sold the team?

Probably fine.  They are close and Dirk literally extended his career to help Cuban get through the sexual harassment scandal.  He's also been trying to walk away from any responsibility he has for the direction the team has had post-sale.  I don't think he deserves Dirk's grace, but it is Dirk's grace to give.

They probably destroyed the team on purpose so that there would be less oposition to a Vegas move.

@TheSteinLine

Sources tell @TheSteinLine that Lively's foot injury was at the center of some significant tensions among new members of Dallas’ medical and performance team at the team’s practice facility in February.

Harrison this week strenuously defended the medical staff he assembled:

Probably for the best. Losing one lopsided game is much better than getting exposed for 4. Plus, we keep a lottery pick.

Also no one in the media is going to believe any talk by the team that this is a contending team. So the heat will remain. I bet Nico stays but the heat isn’t going to get any cooler as long as he has a job.

There's no chance in hell all of Gafford, Lively, and PJ are back next year IMO.

I know AD wants to play the 4 and maybe you keep one of the centers so he can start at the 4. But he's gotta play 5 for at least half the game. PJ isn't a 3 either.

Also don't think some guy on the level of Lonzo Ball + Exum + Brandon Williams is enough to keep this team afloat while Kyrie rehabs the ACL.

There has to be a significant addition this offseason for fans to tune in for next season.

I want Bob Myers at all costs. Huge contract and total control. Let him rebuild it.

AD position will be a issue for sure... And if your supposed superstar is a problem then you have a bigger problem.

I didn't wake up to the news of Nico being fired so I'm gong to assume his job is safe.

Trading Gafford makes a lot of sense.  You’re right PJ is not a 3, but he could start there with Lively and AD and be one of the first players subbed out.  Then move him to the 4 when either Lively or AD comes out.  Keeping all 3 is a pretty solid playoff front line rotation if you can keep Lively and AD healthy.
Guards are an entirely different problem.  BW in my opinion has proved himself worthy of at least being in the rotation.  Exum can play point relatively well but can’t stay healthy.  Klay and Naji are better playing 3.
We need both a point and a play-making 2 guard at least until Kyrie comes back.
I like trading Powell+Hardy for Lonzo.  You may not gain anything but you lost anything either.
So that leaves finding a play-making scoring 2 guard in either the draft or a Gafford trade.

I would have kept Grimes and seeing who would target him with the threat to match whatever anyone offers and then you could see if he could elevate his game after you need his minutes more and now you have a player you can keep or work out a way to trade him if that was the plan to trade him.

Caleb is a miss if you ask me and hind sight is 20 20 so moving on your plan is okay and we may need to take that path but if you do that you need to get some 2nd round picks to add a center on the cheap to replace Gaffords minutes.  Gafford is a part I prefer to hold onto due to Live getting injured often but I suspect this draft is deep in bigs and we will get a decent center even if we have to take one that is undrafted. I hope we can grab one or 2 of the Ivisic brothers they look decent and worth developing.

Lonzo is less costly to grab so what would he take and is he even healthy enough to play yet?

I would think Hardy, Powell and the 2030 second would be enough to get Lonzo. Might have to throw in the rights to Melvin Ajinca.

Absolutely love PJ’s heart and grit, but the best move might be to package him and Caleb Martin for a 3 who is a better fit alongside AD and either Lively or Gafford.

This is all so disappointing and avoidable, but alas, here we are.

Would really love to trade AD to initiate a rebuild. He seems like a decent enough guy, but it’s just never going to work here, both from a basketball perspective and in terms of fan and community engagement.

He didn’t ask for this either, but I just don’t think most Mavs fans will ever be able to look at him and not feel anger about the loss of 77.

Davis is made of yogurt and he has the personality of Donald Duck, he is very good alongside someone like Lebron James or Luka Doncic for example.

Unfortunately for him he will never survive to be the return for Luka Doncic, it's better for everybody to trade him and erase that trade for our heads.

I loved PJ but his words versus the fans in that press conference after a game were crap. He lost my respect.

Best case for the Mavs is fire Nico, trade everyone and start a rebuild, try to win with this roster is madness.

What is the obsession with Lonzo Ball? We want another guy hurt all the time?

When its an idea offering my junk (Powell-Hardy), the return would obviously be flawed. But hopefully also be able to contribute in needed ways.

I have plenty of issues with Ball, not just health, but I think for that package, it's worth the risk. The contract is very suitable, too.

I agree with the idea that he'd be a useful improvement on the junk package you're offering.

My problem is that I don't think a splash at only that level improves the team much, or at least not enough to get me back to "serious about the Mavericks" land. They need a PG badly, and frankly, I don't think even a healthy Irving is good enough in that specific role to check the box.
