MAVS NEWS:
(03-15-2025, 07:24 PM)F Gump Wrote: The Mavs issue is that they have no ability to spend any money. They have a hard cap limit, and it's all spent other than a small leftover amount (enough to pay a minimum salary player for a few days, but not even 10 day contract).

The idea of the NBA granting an extra roster space does nothing for them because they have no money to pay a player to fill such a slot - in fact they already have a free roster space (which makes them ineligible for NBA granting an extra slot).

From NBA pov, they won't bail out the Mavs. It's on a team to have a GM who can manage its situation properly. In this case, it's Nico's fault for failing to leave a cushion of spending room for just in case.

There is no workaround to fix Nico's spending mistake. A s-w is not even allowed during the season.

All they can do is play it out, and whatever happens happens. The Mavs have 17 players on the roster that will become 14 as the 2-ways lose eligibility to play. If at some point they don't have 5 of those who can play, it is what it is. Once we get into April they can spend the last few dollars allowed on a rest-of-season deal, for a player who can give them a few days of play, but it's a very limited bandaid.

If it comes to forfeits or really shortened lineups, that's just more evidence of the Incredible Ineptness of Nico. Then again, if you have pulled the plug on the season, what does it matter?

PJ back today.

Sounds like there is in fact a workaround to Nico’s roster mistakes. The AI says it’s legal to stretch waive a player and doing so would give the Mavs room to sign a healthy player. I don’t believe the NBA should allow Dallas to forfeit any game. If it really comes down to having no other options, the league should force the Mavs to stretch waive an injured player to create the needed room under the apron to field a complete team. Forfeiting a game just isn’t acceptable under any circumstances, especially roster mismanagement and injuries. Waiving Powell would do the trick if he’s injured. Stretching Exum would probably allow them to sign a player too. Stretching Klay would remove a healthy player but create $9 million under the apron so they could make a number of roster management moves to field a team.

There’s no need at all to forfeit games. We have options under the rules. They’re not good options, but that’s what happens when your team is run by idiots.

I'm betting on Gump over AI regarding stretch waive.

EDIT: What I am seeing is that you can technically stretch waive a player, but after Sept 1 you have to pay full salary for current season meaning stretch waive would not help.

After Sept 1. Does that mean it counts now or then? It’s not a good option but the NBA should force the Mavs to do whatever is needed to field a roster. But we have bigger things to worry about. I’m literally sick that Grimes is destroying the league annd the Mavs today and the Mavs got a long term contract albatross in return. Plus Nico gave up a 2nd. He is just a moron.

It means for the current season. So if after September 1st, the Mavs S/W a player, their full salary still counts on the books for this season. So it won’t be until after July 1st would they receive any sort of space from a S/W they made now. And even then the space they would recieve would be pennies on the dollar.

Yes I was referring to salary for this season. The whole point of waiving a player would be an attempt to lower payroll for THIS season -- having a multi year deal and altering the payroll in a future season would not provide any solution.

They will just have to ride it out. Fortunately, the games don't matter, so if they suited up only 4, no biggie other than the weird look.

I’m actually glad to know GROK got that wrong. Guess then Mavs would just be responsible for refunding tickets and repaying broadcast partners, etc. Would be a few million. Anything that can further befall Nico and ownership, I’m down for, especially after Grimes destroyed them tonight.

PJ Washington on the Mavs fan yelling during his free throw: “At the end of the day, trades happen. We understand we have a new team. All that ‘Fire Nico’ stuff, sick and tired of hearing it. We just want to go out and play, the fans to support us no matter who’s on the floor.”

Anyone have Klay Thompson down as "healthiest starter" for 2024-25 Mavs?

I never liked it when players feels entitled to tell tge fans how to behave. You are only entitled to fans being respectful towards you. Not insult the players or anything as it is just a game in the end of the day.

But support "anyone " in the floor, and being sick of them calling out someone who isn't even on the floor, while the team is on 2-10 run, doesn't sound right to me.

But then again,  he is also entitled to his opinion and how to express it.

Anthony Davis is practicing with the Legends today and is very eager to return from his adductor strain before season’s end, league sources tell @TheSteinLine and @DLLS_Sports.

Whether he actually does return, though, remains TBD amid concern about exposing Davis to re-injury.

AD understands the optics, and the fans' very short-sighted evaluation of the Luka trade, just like our very short-term view of the Grimes trade.

All it really takes is for Luka or Grimes to ball out for a few games, and people are screaming about what a bad deal it was, how stupid Nico was, etc.  Especially since there was no corresponding "value" from AD or Martin.

So, for AD to play 10 games and dominate will swing public perception back the other way. It's good for the fans, good for him, good for his teammates, and great for Nico.

More sarcasm?

10 good games from AD is not going to come close to swinging fans back the other way.

I would be very worried that AD coming out and trying to prove his value with a shorthanded team is how he reinjured himself the first time.  The last thing this organization needs is AD getting long term injury in meaningless games.

The Mavs media team is a close 2nd in horribleness after the FO. And that's saying something.

Between their awkward dancing around not thanking Luka. Editing him out of promo vids (while leaving Grimes/Maxi/Morris in). Not giving him any proper thanks.

Now resorting to a horrible AI music video where AD is pointing a pistol at himself?

Like who are these guys and how are they employed?
