Trade & FA 2024-25:
(02-06-2025, 09:55 AM)michaeltex Wrote: Is there a decent point guard on the above list?

Coby White?
Vasilije Micic? (the next DAL Euro player or did that die with Donnie's departure?)
Collin Sexton?
Dennis Schroeder? (TBH, i think this one is a bit of a headcase, but that's just my opinion)
Someone else?

Obviously none of these are Luka-level, but can one function as the initiator, not be a ball stopper and shoot well enough for defenses to play them honestly?

Schroeder could be interesting. He is at his best with ball in his hands, and that is actually something that could suit Kyrie. He was excellent in BKN.

...I thought I will finally experience a deadline where I will not really care if anything happens. Here I am now... Smile

I think all would be available.   Shroeder will probably be bought out.

I just don't know how you make White or Sexton work (sexton with a higher salary than White).    With no seconds now not even a proposal that included the Philly second and a guy like Omax or Jaden works.   That is a light offering but now Dallas doesn't have expirings or seconds.   Seems like they would want a first and I certainly don't want to give up a first now for either player.

Pelinka absolutely went father on Nico.

This is the fourth trade deadline in a row in which the Raptors have traded a first rounder to acquire a player about to hit free agency (Thaddeus Young, Jakob Poeltl, Kelly Olynyk, Brandon Ingram).

True.

Only 1 championship, and only one Executive of the Year.

Pretty much the same as Donnie.

The Toronto Raptors are trading Davion Mitchell to the Miami Heat for PJ Tucker, a second-round pick and cash, sources tell ESPN.
Tucker was traded already three times in less than 24 hours. A couple of hours left to do it more Smile
Looks like Miami has bounced back somewhat from Butler torpedoing their team. They are not front-line stars, but they have decent depth. Living the life of Riley.

There is a version of Klay/PJ for Herro/Jovic that works.  You have to add Powell and Larsson, but we end up with a lineup that makes more sense:

Lively/Gafford
AD/Jovic-OMax
Christie/Martin-Larsson
Herro/Naji-Hardy
Kyrie/SD-Exum
Still find it interesting that the Martin trade hasn’t finalized.

If we actually send Martin to another team, and the Mavs throw in Klay+Gafford+Naji+Powell,

That is just enough for them to get to KD’s number and absorb him.

Big problem though, this would essentially be a 5 for 1 trade (Gafford, Grimes, Naji, Klay, Powell). This trade will leave them with 10 active players, and we need 14. They will be barely under the 1st apron with this trade, like 1.2 mil under, and they’d need 4 more players to round out the roster. Forgive me if my math is wrong, but a minimum deal prorated at this point in the season is roughly 800k each. That means 4 of them will be just a shade under 3mil. Mavs would have to somehow carve out another 1.8 of space.

I believe Exum for nothing gets them right there.

Mavs afterwards would be:

Kyrie/Hardy/minimim/minimum.
Christie/Dinwiddie
PJ/Edwards/minimim
Durant/ OMAX/ minimum
Davis/Lively/

After Basketball Terrorist specifically named PJ as a core member for the group, I don’t think he’s being traded.

Don't think Miami can afford to give up the creation after losing Butler.  Plus that backcourt defense would be a problem.

Given that they blew up any chance of a future, might was well go for a super team instead of halfassing it like they are now.  The terrible return on the Luka trade makes something like this much more difficult though.

I agree, both with Dan that it's a trade worth considering from the Mavs' POV, and, sadly, that Herro probably finds himself squarely in the middle of Miami's near-future planning all of sudden, to the extent that he's less available than he has been in quite some time.

The "offensive creation" part is the hardest to get, by far, which Harrison seems to have forgotten this month. He's about to learn the hard way.

The Phoenix Suns are trading Jusuf Nurkic and a 2026 first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic and a 2026 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.
@esidery
There are still multiple teams calling the Suns making aggressive trade pitches less than two hours before the trade deadline.

Durant is “blindsided” by Phoenix taking calls on him.

The startling thing here is that the Suns had a first round pick.

(seriously, probably the lesser of a swap)
The Atlanta Hawks are trading forward De'Andre Hunter to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks and two swaps, sources tell ESPN.

Great deal for Cavs, if he fits in their team. A bit risky on the other hand, tampering with a team that is doing so great so far.
