Trade & FA 2024-25:

I kept saying "how can you guys not care about an UNPROTECTED pick from a year when Luka might not even play for the Mavs anymore?" Here we are.

I have a feeling the next decade is not going to be kind to Mavericks fans.

Imagine he opts out and walks for nothing this summer
certainly in play

that 2030 pick swap is haunting me more tho. just to dump a year of Reggie Bullock to get Grant Williams

Nah, I doubt it.

Not defending this (I don't even think I understand how I feel about it yet - too much to process), but I have a feeling Kyrie, Kidd and probably other Mavericks were on board.

You know who is happy about this?

Atlanta fans. Turns out they did win the Trae/Luka trade.

This is the most blatant corrupt move in NBA history. It´s like they put all conspiracies into one trade.

1. Klutch planted Harrison in Dallas.
2. Adelsons want to relocate franchise to Vegas.
3. Lakers need a new franchise player to be relevant again.
EDIT
4. Nico will step down and be the new Nike CEO in 18 months.

There is no point going forward with this. I´d advise you find a new team to cheer for until the Mavs get a new franchise.

This iteration of the Mavs won´t be in Dallas within five years anyway, IF you are lucky. A expansion franchise with new ownership will compete before this version of Dallas with no talent and no picks.
This is it. It’s the only thing that makes sense. This is a league that rigs games and playoff series after all. This is a hostile takeover of the Mavs organization. They aren’t going to get casino gambling legalized. Better to just move the franchise to Vegas. Lakers being bad is not an option for the league

Nico is not stupid. Mikal Bridges gets you 4 FRP’s. This is obviously corruption.

Cuban has blame too for selling it to these POS’s

Well, thank you Dirk for the memories. Nobody can take away 2011

Luka finally gets his wish to play with DFS again, at least there’s that!
This shocked the West contenders so hard that

Houston lost to Brooklyn
Minnesota lost to Washington
San Antonio lost to Miami
Phoenix lost to Portland

but at least their fans will wake up tomorrow and still have a team.

Also they don´t have a home game until February 8th. They knew exactly what they were doing. They´d never pull the trigger on this deal with a home game with 48 hours of this mess, cause of potential riots.

Well, eff. This wasn’t on my bingo card.

Any chance of playing PzJ at the 3?

I think I am too.   I just keep thinking of the worse case for Luka and the best case for AD.   And that doesn't even make me want to do this trade.

I hope Nico gets run out of town. How do you trade an MVP, someone who you LITERALLY just went to the finals with. SOMEONE WHO CARRIED THIS FUCKING FRANCHISE, for basically nothing.

Trying to keep up with everything, so, is this where the Mavs stand?

Kyrie | Exum
Dinwiddie | Christie | Hardy
Klay | Grimes
PJ | Naji | Omax
Davis | Gafford | Lively* | Powell*

Injured*

With Anthony Davis waiving his trade bonus, Dallas is now $628K under the luxury tax.

They were $5.1M over prior to the trade.

If the roster is correct and the Mavs have plenty of room to operate below the first apron, what follows? Has anyone brought up the possible Jimmy Butler angle? This is so depressing to type out.
Powell. Exum grimes and a 1st for whatever best player you can get.

They don´t have enough salary for Butler and their win now plan. Washington will play SF and Davis will play PF.

I think Davis will play plenty of 5. Especially with Lively out months, possibly the year. Either way, do we think they’re done making moves and believe this is a championship roster? Is their goal to stay below the tax, like they are at the moment?
The trade is a disaster for the Mavs. Nico and ownership sold us out. But credit where credit is due. Given both teams’ payrolls and the trade rules involved, the trade seems to involve an unprecedented amount of wizardry to both get Dallas out of the tax and keep a trade with a very high payroll partner legal. It’s a technical and financial masterclass from Nico and probably the most impressive trade in NBA history from that perspective. Too bad the result is the destruction of a team for a decade or more all to save a little money in the short term. Private equity ownership sucks.

I really expect the new owners to flip the team soon. It’s how private equity operates. Most likely, ownership decided the casino angle in Texas was dead and got cheap. Cuban’s sale price was pretty reasonable. The owners can still move on and make a little profit. They have no civic roots in this community best I can tell and don’t really seem to be in it for fun. Maybe they move to Vegas instead, but that makes no sense. Dallas/Fort Worth is just too massive a market for something like that even without casino gambling in Texas.

Thanks for trying to keep up and consolidate this mess.

We obviously have a huge glut in Center now.

I cannot seriously consider Butler because if they traded Luka to save on tax, trading for Butler entails an extension for him too. So they aren’t saving any money in that scenario.

I cannot believe this is the reality we live in.

Money angle makes no sense either, cause they could have traded Luka for at least seven 1st round picks, two rookie contracts and a big expiring to match. Nothing is cheaper.

Castle, Vassell, Barnes and seven 1st round picks. Done.

So you can go through all the thoughts that this team needs a big point guard to fit next to Kyrie. Maybe a really good wing defender off the bench. Probably best to sell high on Gafford.

Although in the end, does it really even matter? Just rearranging deck chairs for a team that won’t be good enough.

That’s what get me. You need a top 5 guy to win a ring. Luka was that. They gave up the best generational player since LeBron for an old AD and nothing.

We don’t even have the ammo to get the next guy to complete this team. Makes no sense.

I can’t believe it. I was so excited for Luka to come back to the court. I can’t believe that Christmas game was Luka’s last game as Mav.
