AROUND the NBA:

Beat the Cavs
Beat the Cavs in Cleveland
Beat the Celtics in Boston (BTW I am disappointed the depleted Mavs didn't compete better against Boston.  Boston has struggled recently too.  I did not see the Boston game but was disappointed it wasn't really close
Beat ATL on back to back

Not bad.

We have to see how they play in the playoffs, but Houston is a legit threat in the West. Amen Thompson is an amazing player. Reminds me of Dennis Rodman with a better shot. They still could use more 3 pt shooting., Ime Udoka has done an amazing job with this young, athletic, physical team, which is sprinkled in with a couple of playoff vets.

...and Amen can play from the point, can play 1-4.  He'll be the best player out of that draft.

Joel Embiid missed his 400th game with the Sixers last night,
Unreal...

200+ mil for roughly 400 games played is an insane ROI for Embiid. Dude should become VC after he retires given how well he knows how to game the system.

Saw this comment from and nba writer on Bluesky

Kings fans have accurately pointed out that the organization failed to get the right spacers around Fox & Sabonis.

That point is very much underlined by the fact that they could easily have gotten into the Quentin Grimes business before Dallas made their move.

That guy was strangely ignored.

Yeah, he's becoming a bully. Indiana and Detroit have a real disdain for each other, just like the good old days. Plenty of trash-talk and physical play between them, and the main instigator is Tyrese Haliburton.

Federal prosecutors have been investigating whether NBA player Terry Rozier manipulated his performance as part of an illegal sports betting scheme.

The inquiry is part of a wider government investigation that has already ensnared Jontay Porter.

The gambling ring accused of conspiring with Jontay Porter to manipulate his performance in NBA games also bet heavily against Rozier a 2023 game for the Hornets.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, generally, but I have been worried lately that these partnerships between gambling platforms and pro sports leagues, which are becoming more and more prevalent with each passing day, might be leading us down a path that ends with everything being tainted, and possibly even damn-near scripted. I know it's bonkers to imagine things getting that far, but if they catch people doing stuff like this, I really hope they take drastic measures to make an example of them.

That has always been the Pandora’s box with the NBA allowing gambling. It’s why I was so against gambling in sports.

It may have something to do with Rozier's performance this year. His scoring and shooting is down, and he's coming off the bench now. And his minutes have been cut. He's not the same "Scary Terry" that was in Charlotte. A lot is going on in Miami.

Dang.

Imagine what would happen if the WWE started doing that.

It would corrupt the purity of the sport!

Key reason why pro/college sports kept their distance from Las Vegas for decades, to eliminate even the suspicion of game fixing. Any hint of an issue was immediately stomped upon, with no compassion. Just ask Pete Rose, or the Chicago Black Sox.

But now every major pro league wants a team there.

I am not a gambler.   I like watching sports.   I have never felt the urge to bet on games.   Maybe it is just old me, but almost every sports podcast has a bet ad read now.    I mean, talking about the lines is fun, but I thin we are way ahead of our skis.  Although, I imagine it is pretty damaging to young people (especially boys) in their 20's.   I am sure many are addicted.    I fear for the consequences.

I see ads and articles about how to bet this or that game for almost every event and I wonder if anyone still just enjoys the games for the competition. Are out collective attention spans getting so shortened that we can't stay engaged for a couple hours to watch a game? Seems like now it's all about the highlight tapes and who covered what spread.

Pelicans can’t have nice things. Trey Murphy has an unbelievable
Game last night in Boston only to lose on a last second shot. Then news broke that Dejounte Murray tore his Achilles. That trade was already lost with Atlanta now it is much worse.
